Re: Always wanted a 92 Win in 44WCF
I has a very good bore and shoots very well, the first time I had it out. Restored would be nice but no doubt would cost too much. At least it was not sanded or buffed when the cold blue was done. I'll get up some targets and range report next time it goes out.

That is one of those things I knew but it did not come out right.Griff wrote:Actually, the 44WCF IS a rifle cartridge. Introduced in 1873 with the 1873 Winchester. the Hi-Vel loads were only listed for rifles of the 1892 strength. Awaiting a range report!

Re: Always wanted a 92 Win in 44WCF
It is listed for high pressure tier 2 loads in some reloading manuals such as Lyman 4th edition cast bullet manual. Besides is it not really just a model 14 action, same as used in 25,30,and 35 Rem calibers. But called a 14 1/2 to differentiate it as a pistol caliber rifle.

Re: 1886 33 WCF
I size at .340 dia and had to custom order an H&I die from Buff Arms. The mold was speç to drop at .341. The rifle has a perfect bore as that was a condition of the sell that had to be met. I dont really know what the operating pressure is for the 33 but it is supposed to be capable of launching...

Re: Always wanted a 92 Win in 44WCF
Considering the cold blue job and stock refinish it was a third the price of a 92 with a good bore. I don't have a revolver to go with it. The 14 1/2 is a strong action so there is that to consider when selecting a matching handgun.

But you all know what they want for them so I picked this Rem 14 1/2 up awhile back. 8gr unique and the LEE 200gr RNFP and it's quite the little shooter. It makes me look past the poor slathering of cold blue and wood refinish.

It is a recent manufactured Lyman as the originals are costing way to much, and is the large disk with the smaller hole. Can't remember the hole size.

1886 33 WCF
Finally got out to shoot this rifle for the first time and really like it. It handles quite well and is light weight especially for an 1886 in a take down model. Bullet was from one of Tom's cataloged molds and is the knock off of the old Lyman design and as usual cast very well. Powder was Accurate...

If powder power is out then the Marauder pre charge would be the wise choice alough pricey. There are several reviews on then just google it.

If you decide to take up casting for it, look at Accurate Molds. I just received a copy of the old Lyman GC for my 33. Buffalo arms can supply a .340 H&I sizer die and Hornady once again makes gas checks for the 338.

I have done a few of them and they aint to bad to do as long as you have a good vice or chain vice to get the packing nut loose. Some of the hard nylon type seals need to be placed in boiling water to soften them. If it aint leaking leave it be. Seal kits are about 30 bucks.
