More likely he was being careful with the weak toggle link design of an 1873 than weak rifling. Probably. He made a point to talk about how shallow the rifling was ... I might have assumed that was related. But didn't a .44 WCF leave the barrel of a rifle at over 1000fps even with black powder back...

I never quite got the need for that particular Winchester sight. I also wish he'd have tested at 1100 fps or so instead of 750 fps. I suppose he had to accommodate the weak rifling.

What I do love though, is the Sheard Triple-Leaf.

Definitely need to slow the bullets down... either by more distance between them, or slower velocity. Plus, can't imagine how even 8 or 9 Bhn bullets would fuse. Need to use pure lead. That was pretty interesting. I suspect they needed unalloyed lead for the bullets to better approximate the result of the original in the Smithsonian.

I've got a lot of .22's ... hence the moniker Rimfire McNutjob. My favorite in the handgun area is the 6" Colt Diamondback. Smooth, accurate, and well balanced. That almost sounds like a beer description.

Looks like he took pretty good care of that rifle. I love the old theater-wide-screen scopes from back in the day. Yeah, I don't think I'd mess with it either. Are you going to put a few rounds through it ... you know, just to make sure?

Yeah, Remington made about a billion pump guns in 30 and 35 Remington. They are everywhere ... or they used to be anyway. I would assume a Marlin short rifle in 35 Remington would a great gun to have. Especially down here in Florida where the shots are not far but the brush is thick.

I can see how speed would be a challenge. The faster you shoot, the harder it is to see the target through the smoke. Are all three of your Patterson's running well? I thought you had mentioned having issues with one in another thread.

Interesting how proud the spring cover base is to the receiver. I wonder if that's to accommodate the cartridge size.

There's actually a No. 15 up on eBay right now starting at $700. Nice looking sight, but I can see what they mean by not folding down out of the way.

Natchez appears to have OK pricing but I think they make up any of that lost margin on shipping charges. My last order with them was $65 in shipping/hazmat ... which was crazy on a $290 order.
