Re: What characteristics make a handy lever?
In truth, each of our definitions' of 'handy' may depend in part upon what part of the country we live in. Back East in places like KY, TN, or PA, one needs a 'handy,' short barreled dear rifle that's fast handling because of the short range and/or brush shooting so common back there. That also mean...

Re: Price for Uberti '73 Cattleman, .357, 5.5" Barrel?
If that is an 1986 DOM Uberti ask if it's the two position base pin safety or if it is the earlier "D" cam style gun. The two position safety is more desirable over the "D" cam. The "D" cam guns are more likely to go out of time. This was because the bolt fingers were ...

Price for Uberti '73 Cattleman, .357, 5.5" Barrel? - Update
Need some help gents. I'm lookin' over a 1986 '73 Uberti Cattleman .357, 5.5" barrel with brass frame that seller says is excellent shape except for the usual thin spots from holster wear. Seller claims he bought it new in 1986 and that he's got only a few rounds (15 - 20 so I'm figuring 200) t...

Re: Long Range Shooting with a .357 Lever Gun?
Well, I've got to admit that the small aperture in the tang sight is what makes it possible for me. Without it I'd only see the front sight as a blur. Another way to look at the tang sight is that it was the 'everymans' equivalent of a scope sight back in the 1800s. A good shooter could test the cap...

I've got the Marbles on my Rossi and it's got a windage adjustment so you don't have to shim it. In addition, it comes with a set of apertures. I use the smallest one (.032") to give the best Depth of Field (length of the area that is all in focus) which allows me to see the front sight clearly...

I never got any leading from plated bullets. Before I knew I wasn't suposed to I pushed Raniers to 1750 or so FPS. Now I use 12 gr of 2400. Stock factory sights at 300 yds! You are likely young and certainly have great eyesight. At 61+ yrs, the eyes aren't what they use to be by a long shot and I find that I can see my 1/16" wide front sight clearly by looking through a small rear peep because the main advantage of the .032" a...
