Re: Need Help on Savage 1899 250-3000

Thanks for the replies! When I bought the rifle I did have it looked at by a gunsmith just to make sure it was sound. He cleaned the bore by using Outers chemical cleaner but after several days of cleaning he concluded the rifling is well worn out. During load testing any 100 grain bullets I tried k...

It's been awhile that I have posted here been pretty busy with the house addition anyway I have a Savage 1899 T.D. in 250-3000 that I bought several years ago. The problem with it is the rifling, completely worn out. Just recently I went to the range and the loads I developed then are starting to ke...

Re: Savage 1899C and 303 Savage Questions

I have a couple of the TD models in 30-30, 250-3000 and I love them! The price is pretty good considering it being a half round/octagon barrel. I have a friend who has a Savage 303 in an octagon barrel and I load for him using 30-30 loading data. He shot a nice doe with it a few years ago! You can m...

From 6pt-sika: The rifle is pretty nice ! I have 8x57 brass for reforming and trimming . But I have yet to get a set of dies . I have however made a chamber cast to send to HC4D just to be a extra carefull . Just curious how difficult is it to reform/trim the 8x57 brass because I was thinking about ...

Re: Lyman 57SA Rear Sight?

Just a couple of questions:

The hash marks on the windage and elevation settings, what do they represent?

There are a couple of screws, one on the elevation side plate, one on the windage plate and a long set screw near the elevation knob. What adjustments do they make?

I put the gun on hold for a day or two just to decide. The problem I'm finding is brass is becoming harder to find for it.

PC on Marlin 336SS

Local gun shop has a Marlin 336SS LTD in 35 Rem. The barrel in non-micorgove type, hardly used and the shop owner doesn't have the original box the previous owner threw it out. $495 out the door. Your thoughts.

Heavy bullets in 38-55?

Just curious to see if anybody is shooting anything heavier than 300 + grain bullets out of their 38-55 lever guns or single shot rifles. If so, what weight and brand. For competition or hunting.

Thanks,

Thanks for the info! :) As for the octagonal barrel it was just a thought and I will have him make the decision if it can be done. I picked up the Savage 99 just the barrel and receiver from a yard sale a few months ago thinking it would make a good project.

Taylor Machine gun services

I'm curious to know if anybody here used him for any gunsmithing work? I'm thinking of getting my Savage 99 converted from 30-30 to 38-55 and have the round barrel made into an octagonal.

Thanks

Not original modification, but certainly unique. Reminds me of a Mannlicher Musket. It certainly does look like a Mannlicher, I find it quite interesting. 45LC Case Length?

What's the correct trim-to-length for the 45LC? I have a couple of reloading books and they are not consistent :? . It's either 1.265, 1.275 or 1.280. Any help?

I was in a hurry so I didn't get a good look at it. It does have a 24 inch round barrel. I'm probably going back there this weekend to take a better look.
