Joe, Around here the night is alive with sounds. Coyotes mostly but when a barred owl lets loose it is hard to stay hooked. Daddy used to say it sounds like a red-headed woman being run through with a red hot sword. They can do an evil laugh too. I built a house that really deadens the sound and the...

Re: Time Machine - Colt's response to SAA problem April 17, 1963

I had a very good experience with Colt's about a year ago. Bought a 4.75" 44-40, full blue with Ivory grips still new in box but mfg in 71. When I shot it, the brass came out not even looking like 44-40 and one chamber would only eject by pushing the ejector head against the edge of the bench. ...

You could just bore out the end of the barrel to a point that cleans up the rifling. .375 would clear it out just fine and leave it as 30 WCF.

When I went out as a deputy the .41 mag was one of my favorite cartridges. Had a 58, 57 and Blackhawk and always used the Speer 190 grain HP over XX grains of H110 or WW296 and felt it was a flatter shooting cartridge than the .44 mag. Yes! I ringed the barrel on my Uberti 73 by wiping the barrel with a too wet patch. Probably left a drop of water that put a bad place about half way down the pipe. Doesn't effect accuracy but I can feel it every time I wipe the barrel. Too much oil could do the same thing. I've seen many barrels th...

What I like best about liners is that you save the original markings while getting a new bore.

Re: When were Winchester Levers made in .45lc

Never. The original cartridge for the 73 was 44WCF (44-40). No 92s in .45 Colt either. The .45 Colt is a straight walled case that is quite thick and does not seal the chamber off well, with any load but especially with black powder. The 73 is easy to dismantle and clean but why not just use the ver...

If the ring is not near the muzzle it may still shoot alright. Probably the only way to fix it is to have the barrel relined. Might not be cost effective though. Unless there is an unsightly bulge on the outside in the area of the makers mark the outside can be fixed too. Still, a lot of money to sp...
