I thought the movie and the book were pretty close. Much closer than most movies are to their book origins anyway. Lonesome Dove is actually the third book in a series of 4 hes written on those characters. These days I watch the movie up until the part where Gus is fighting the Indians out of the ri...

The best one I ever had was my first 10/22 that I saved and saved and bought for myself as a young boy. Shot the snot out of it and never had a problem. Remington Golden Bullets were my go-to and they never gave me any problems either. Shot it so much the barrel walked out about 1/8", I was in ...

Thats a pretty funny story! I bet his face was priceless! Honestly I'd have rather had that scabbard pulled a little farther back but it wasn't possible with that borrowed scabbard. I shouldn't really post here as I don't own any horses but here are some of my mounts that I rode this past summer: Debbie, a draft cross. . I had a Winchester Timber in .450 Marlin when it was first introduced (2004), but was disappointed with it in two ways. * While the chambering seemed OK, I felt any of the real .45's I had (.45-70's, i.e.) were a lot more flexible in their available loadings. *Both the .450 Timber, and the .444 T...

Winchester 94 450 Marlin ??
Anybody have one? I realize recoil isn't mild but my recent trip to Montana got me thinking. The 1895 Saddle Ring "Carbine" I was carrying on my saddle is every bit as long and likely heavier than a bolt gun with scope. The 94 would be smaller and lighter but the .450 would pack a wallop s...

Another option is the XS sight for the 94. The real peep mounts to the reciever but would be in the same position as the 98A sight. Cheaper sight and less gunsmith work to get it installed (two holes to drill and tap unless you have an AE model and it's done factory).

Red dots are going to be the fastest. But if you shoot with both eyes open a scope doesn't give up much in speed. 10x is the largest scope I have and I'm able to use it both eyes open just fine. If they are designed for it a peep can be very accurate though not as accurate as a scope. We shot with t...

It certainly can cause rust. Chrome tanned leather (which most shoelaces sold today are) is the worst for rust. Vegetable and brain tanned are.much "safer" but can still trap moisture and cause rust but unless you tanned the laces yourself I can guarantee you dont have brain tanned shoe la...

Saying a 1894 that's had it's frame beefed up is stronger than a 336 not changed, is kinda like saying your Chevy with a supercharger is faster than my Chevy without one. I still think that the 336 is a stronger action in standard form, and strong enough that Marlin saw no reason to beef it up. The...

I have a Browning 71 and a late production Winchester 71 rifle, never thought either recoiled particularly hard. Ballistically (on paper) the .348 is a pretty near match to a .30-06 and I always felt like they recoiled pretty close to the same as well.

When the weather cooperates I'm going to take my new long slide 10mm out to 200 and see why I can do (maybe further depending on how that goes).

Anybody else think that Winchester dropped the ball this year? It's the 125 year anniversary of the Model 94 and they offer a couple limited run specials at over $2000 a piece. Instead they tout their "new" cartridge that seems to be pretty similar to their old .351, granted I see the mark...

I stick with the bottleneck rifle cartridges though I agree with much of your reasoning for choosing otherwise.
