Sorry for no pics, guys, but I finally got my win 94 scout rifle back from the gunsmith and immediatly took it to the range to sight it in at 100yds. MAN AM I HAPPY with what I did to Pappy's old (1977 vintage, found in a crashed and partially burned airplane) 30/30!! :D

I've heard the main reason for the weird weather is that there's been virtually no sun activity for the last TWO years, ie. sun spots and flares, hence the cooler weather. So much for global warming, eh?

If you really want to got the route of getting a butt pad, I'd suggest a Pachmeyer Decelerator, it's what I'm putting on my Win 94. HTH

try 4-8 grains of Unique or Red Dot, Been using that since '73 with 113gr Lee FP for a squirrel load and general plinking/shooting. Thanks, 3leggedturtle. Primers backing out would indicate there isn't enough pressure to set the case back against the bolt face. Similar effect of shooting wax bullets in a revolver without enlarging primer flash holes. Like three legged turtle mentions go with quicker powder and it should be okay. Unique is a good powd...

I just want a low velocity plinking load. The load that I was given last year using 27gr IMR 3031 does work, but the primers are backing out a bit, hence the query for Unique loads.

As I mentioned already, I've got a 2X EER scope in hand, so might see if it works with the XS Scout mount, and since I have the Leupold Scout Scope on (back)order from Midway, I just might turn my 1894c into a Scout Rifle also. :mrgreen:

Thanks for all the opinions, guys. Have decided to go with the Leupold Scout Scope, even if it is a bit more expensive. Now to have a couple holes d&t'd to mount the XS Scout Rail. BTW, 94 is a 1977 vintage. 8)

Thanks, jkbrea. I do have other Leupold scopes that I'm happy with, was just wondering if I really needed the focusing option on the Burris, and what others opinions were on these two.

I shoot 180 cast bullets with 12gr SR4759 useing standard primers out of my new model blackhawk and 1894c. I got that load out of the RCBS cast bullet reloading manual. I get 1346fps out of an 18.5" barrel. BTW, max load is 13gr.

Thanks for the info, guys. It does have the rounded front sight hood AND Lyman 66MC receiver sight. I've been thinking of getting a Marbles slot blank to stick in the slot of the missing rear sight. BTW, the bore is in REALLY good condition. I've been told that I'm only the second owner of this 39A....
