I can certainly relate to outrage at government interference into our daily lives - my state on the Left Coast is a great example of that. But I'm reminded of Jim Jones and a few other leaders who in fact were the brainwashers of a mass of people and the tragic results. The prosecutors are still loo...

Shooting from prone or uphill - As an afterthought: If you are prone or shooting uphill, bifocals will present a problem; I don't know about trifocals since I never tried them. This is especially where scopes or peep sights (or a longer sight radius on a handgun) might help! After a certain age when...

Thanks, y'all. I realize that each firearm is different, but I wanted a consensus of a more or less universal powder for a somewhat universal, inexpensive lead .30-30 bullet - for a variety of reasons - a medium range load that works safely and reasonably well with most 30-30's in a pinch. Your valu...

This reply may sound a little off-topic, but for the fact that the posting did not specify leverguns only, or rifles only. I am also one of the over-40 bunch who had to switch to glasses. Favorite Powder - 30-30 cast 173 gr
Every rifle is different, etc., etc... But what do you think is the ONE best powder for moderately fast, accurate all around 30-30 loads with the 173 Gr. Lyman 311041 FN, lubed, gas checked bullet? I'll probably use the most popular "vote" to start up some experimental loads for my levergu...

No problems with these lead bullets in my SKS. I finished cleaning my firearms and went over the SKS with a fine tooth comb. No sign of any problems in or around the gas piston, or leading in the barrel. I should emphasize that I used a hard cast, nicely lubed bullet with a gas check (Wayne Doudna's...

If you have an SKS, then you know how robust, easy to remove and clean the gas tube and piston are. Periodic inspection and cleaning of the port should be fairly easy IMO. Good point. Still pondering... don't like the idea of anything that might clog the gas port at the wrong time, since this is al...

Are you seeing any leading in the gas port on that SKS? My only concern is that on some semi-autos (the Ruger 44 carbine for example) we had trouble with using cast bullets because the gas port would get clogged by bullet metal and lube that tore off when the bullet passed the port... Dang! Now you...
