First of all, my lenses don't get real dirty. Every scope I own has lens covers in place unless it is being used in the field, so heavy dust deposits are never a problem. What little dirt gets picked up in the woods is easily removed with the Leupold Lenspen.

As-is, the dry-lubed bullets do fine at Cowboy-level velocities, 750-850 fps. I have found that they will also do well at velocities up to about 1200 fps if I add a thin coat of liquid Alox to them.

I have seen this phenomenon many times, in many different rifles/chamberings. The only explanation I can give is pretty rudimentary -- different loads cause different patterns of barrel vibration. For a stock that is filthy, nasty, dirty I like warm water, Murphy Oil Soap, and a soft-bristle nylon scrub brush. Scrub, wipe off with an old towel. Repeat as many times as needed.
