Ammo is available, I believe Navy Arms has a run made every few years for the old guns. At the recent Antique Winchester gun shows in Cody, I saw probably a half dozen boxes for sale on various tables. The "strength" issue makes for interesting discussions, but means little in real life unless you plan to build a gun in a very high pressure chamebering, all of them will last a lifetime with the rounds they were chambered for, (with the possible exception of the 307 and 356, we havent had...

Winchester did this exact thing, they used the same exact case, but loaded a 450 gr bullet, and called it 50-100-450(I've seen original guns so marked). If you're going to use black powder, the case capacity may be an issue, but with 100 grs of black and a 450 gr bullet, that still should be enough ...

After unscrewing the magazine tube and sliding it out a bit, open the action some, so the barrel doesnt bend or break the extractor, the barrel/magazine assembly then unscrews a quarter turn, then pulls out the front of the receiver. I've wondered in the past if it would be worthwhile to have the receiver sight screwholes enlarged to the next size up. Would let you torque it a little better.

Two holes on the tang a half inch apart? That doesnt sound right for the normal tang sights used on lever guns, there should be one hole just behind the hammer, and the rear tang sight mounting hole is the stock screw.
