Shoot the poor thing, say a quick prayer to the Creator,
police your brass, and keep on going.

Many wardens would write ya up. You don't need the hassle.
You and I know you did the RIGHT thing. Maybe not legal,
but the law is an a** many times.

I have a S&W model 66 (similar to the 686 but with only a partial underlug as opposed to the full underlug) that I shot bullseye with for years (using 38 special ammo). Add some Pachmyr (or similar) rubber grips to the thing and you have a dandy revolver. One season I outshot all but 4 of the ce...

I'd stick with the 35 Rem, myself - but I am a big and sometimes "cartridgecentric" fan of that old round. The 35 will always make a bigger hole, and 10 grains worth of weight shouldn't make that much difference on deer in terms of penetration. Or, do like wcf3030 says and load only two ro...

Man, that's nice! I love the flame in the stock.

I wouldn't mind finding one of those under the
tree Tuesday morning. If it shoots as good as
it looks, you'll have a keeper!

Please keep us all posted!

Thanks, dr walker. We have several locations for blinds, and all of the shots will be straight and level. Head shots every time at 100 - 125 yards is probably asking a bit much, but through the boiler room should be no problem. I'll try to get the 243 out to the range. If I can't shoot that one 3&qu...

"Cartridegecentric", eh? I like it.....

Is that like knowing that the 35 Remington is clearly
superior to all other levergun rounds, save perhaps
the 45-70 for dangerous game? :P

THAT said, there's really nothing wrong with the 30 WCF.... :)

My wife liked the big Ruger semi-autos in 9mm, so I bought her one. She decided it was too big and heavy to carry in her purse, so I bought her a Taurus model 85 (like SW J-frame). It's a dandy little gun in 38 Special. Those new Kel-Tecs are easy to operate if she is partial to a semi-auto, and the...

dr walker, do you happen to remember the bullet weight on that
125 yard shot?

Yes, the dime-sized group was from the bench, but I can hold 1 -1.5 '
groups sitting at that range. This particular rifle is THAT good!

OT - 22 Magnum for coyote?

Does anyone out there have coyote hunting experience? Three of us are going out in January at night to hunt the cagey pests. We'll be in a blind, using roadkill as bait. (One neighbor is a State cop and can get all of the carcasses we need!) Ranges will be on the order of 100 yards or thereabouts. T...

I, like every other thinking man, do not want insane people to have guns. This bill puts us on the top of the slippery slope where we let the gov't decide who is actually nuts. Let's say I have a bout with depression, and the doc decides I MIGHT harm myself. Well, whether he's right or wrong, he is ...

How about 9x18 Makarov? It'd be cheap to shoot, and real
easy on the shoulder.

I like txpete's suggestion of 7.62x39. Hard to believe somebody
hasn't already done that. Ammo's available on any continent....... :)

22 Jet might be a hoot, too!

WW 231 is a terrific pistol powder. I've used it in 38 Special, 9mm, 45ACP, 10mm, and 41 Magnum. As mentioned above, it meters beautifully. You could also try 2400, H110, WW296 in the 357 Magnum, I believe. 2400 is an extremely versatile powder - if you didn't want to buy and/or stock a bunch of dif...

Yeah, all of those old, marginal cartridges like the 45 ACP, 9mm, 45-70, 30-30, 35 Remington and the 30-06 are still doing the job today. (Okay, not too many gun writers are calling the 30-06 marginal. :) ) They all still kill lots of critters (quadriped and biped alike), and without 'em the ammo ma...

I always hunt with the hammer on half-cock and a round in the chamber. The late Jeff Cooper advises carrying it with no round in the chamber and racking the lever as the gun is brought to the shoulder. I wrote him a letter about this, pointing out that when hunting from a stand the motion and noise ...
