Found a new local smith. The barrel itself weighs 4lbs 3ozs. Told'em if he could get it down to 1lb8oz i would be happy. tho will settle for 2lbs. He quoted me 2weeks and a reasonable cost. So will give update then.

YEP I had an aquarium that got a "bug" in it. The pills at the pet shop was $20 or more. Fleet Farm had the same stuff in powder form for $3.39 considering gas had just gone up to $1.29 a gallon; and i bicycled to work there 3 times a week, that was alot of money left over to buy .22 ammo ...

Match Grade Machine ( MGM ) Had them make me a 8.25" 9mm and 12" 30/30. They are both nice shooting. Have nice mirror smooth bores. 30/30 will do anything you need from 32ACP type loads up to full on factory loads. Think its more useful than either a 22LR or 357 Mag barrel.

L&M Fleet supply in Grand Rapids, MN has the 22/45 with 4" or 5.5" bullbarrels for $255 and $260. They are the fixed grip model.. They felt a little narrow to me, but what a good price. Almost as cheap as a new Contender pistol barrel and 9 more shots on tap. They are the blued version...

Gunsmith for Lightening and trimming barrels
Where can I send a single shot rifle barrel to be shortened and tapered down. Its a .17Mach2 Handi bull barrel. The barrel weighs about 8lbs by itself. Who does this type of work?

One thing I have noticed is the Hornady 87gr SPP is more destructive than their 75gr HP. Also haver shot the 90gr GK and the 100gr SPP by R-P they seem to shoot about the same. Also expand similarly on 2litre water-filled bottles. I have yet to check and see what my rifling twist is yet.

Learn something different everday. How about the 50gr 22Mag Federal load. Any one know how long that bullet is and what speed it should take to stabilize? I chrono them at 1550fps out of a 19 and 21" barrel, and 1425fps out of a 10" Contender.

I bumped the shoulder on my 223 AI and they wont chamber yet. Nice to know other people arent afraid to use a little ingenuity to solve a problem. I never thought about the primer as a way to check the headspace, my wheels are turning. As soon as i park, am gonna look at a few things. Todd

Thanks gents, I do have a Lee mold on the way, and always have at least 150# of lead/wheelweights on hand,I am just getting itchy to shoot it. This working for a living gets in the way of shooting and reloading at times. As I am sure most y'all are in this club.

WOW Talk about sticker shock, thought I would get 100 cast bullets just to try out, until I got my mold. The cheapest I find is $24 per 100. Jacketed are even more. Maybe I'll just buy some round balls and have a short range rabbit load.

You could also get a Lyman "M" die. I have one for every rifle caliber and use it for both cast and jacketed bullets. Have gone so far as to take out decapper rod and put a smaller diameter inside neck expander, (cant think of the term for it) so I aint overworking necks more than need be.

Pitchy I really like that tumbler, had a rock tumbler that looked like it, I used with "rice shaped" walnut media. Cleaned cases real good inside and out. I on the prowl for another one.

KirkD, I have found that slow burning powders can sometimes give much better results with no leading in rougher barrels. And......as we know PSB works great as a gas check with faster powders.....
