i too carry a lot of extra ammo....cant hurt to have it can it? just seems prudent...for the unexpected. i just dont have it hooked into my lever gun, but on detachable magazine weapons i carry several extras, no matter where i am going.

Paco says the lack of the front hanger for the magazine and the lack of pressure there, lets the barrel resonate more freely.....i think that was the idea. it seems to be true in my little experience. as well as what you mentioned, which could be a very significant factor
