Both work with the original hammer on the percussion revolvers, so no modification there (and thus the flexibility to switch back and forth). I've used matches in place of gunpowder in .38 .. .357 .. .44 and .45 caliber. You can reach 800 to 900 fps with it. In a cartridge you don't need the striker material.
