reloading start
Just bought the MarlinXLR in 338ME. Already own a Marlin 32 Special and a 357. All of which in my opinion can use some tweaking on performance with some reloading. Have followed every thread on loading in these and other calibers as well on this forum, and a few others. To get started reloading, wha...

Marlin 338
Let's say that I purchase a Marlin 338ME XLR. What modifications would be recommended? My first thought is to get rid of the dang push button safety. I am going to guess that trigger is poor, or at least not what I want. So, need to send it to someone to remove the safety and work the trigger. What ...

Re: How much does it cost to get started?
This would be for a youth, to start out deer hunting: Marlin 30/30 $400 (no scope, at young age, wouldn't need it) $5-6 boxes of ammo @ $15/box. $75-80 Good pair of boots $50-80 Hunting jacket or coat (is cold here in Neb, may be a sweat shirt in TX?) $50-90 Orange Vest and Cap $20 License and tag $...

They are good eating, at least the young ones are. But have grown soft around the edges myself. 86er, I shot that Red Stag at you place with the BLR 308 using the Federal 180 grain soft point. Ran (staggered) 50 yards and fell over dead. The 325 win I haven't really thought about and the caliber is right in my wheel house. Will have to think about that one. Thanks gentelmen for all your commen...

Need comments on elk/moose gun
I am in search of a good elk/moose gun (in lever action of course) I have a BLR in 308, but I feel it is just a bit on the margin as far as "good" elk/moose gun goes. I like the idea of the Marlin 338ME, but I am not in love with the only bullet it comes with! Reloading the cartridge so fa...

Post the results of your shooting with the 30GNR when you do. I would be interested. I found the website interesting. I have never been much of a wildcatter, but I have always shot oddball gauges, (10, 16 and 24ga) and odd calibers (357 for deer, 307win 32 Special) So not out of my realm at all. The...

Anyone have any information and/or experience in his Custom Rifles or Cartridges??
Have some interest in the 310GNR, 30GNR and even maybe the 8mmGNR.
If I could get them in a Marlin Lever, that would be something, if I can get the rifle heavy enough. I like heavy rifles.

Hornady ballistic tip or gummy tip or whatever you call it, accounting for some "totally lost" animals. That is what prevents me from running out and buying Marlin's 338(or 308) for that matter. I want to see different bullets first. I have to ask, are most accounts people shooting through...

Re: Cartridge Performance from client journal
Lot of data, but not statistically significant. WAY too many differing variables to draw any conclusions. Take any of the cartridges with little data and then string them out to the number of 30/06 used, and suddenly 100% becomes more elusive. Cannot draw conclusions that any of these calibers are a...

Re: Factory hunting loads for an 1894 .357
I have killed many Midwest Whitetail with Federal 180gr .357 out of a Marlin. In short range situation, which my deer stand is, that load was a killer. EVERY slug was trapped just under the hide on the exit side, and usually very well intact, about the size of your thumb. The internally damage was t...

Thanks for the replies. I would welcome the heavier gun. Don't mind that at all. I figured as much that new calibers, especially ones I mentioned, would never be made simply due to low sales volume. I liked the 32H&R, but Ruger only made it in a few configuratins, none of which I wanted! Give me 2" barrel, fixed sights! I have small hands, short stubby fingers, smaller guns I handle better. I think .327 in the LCR would be nice carry gun. The BEST carry gun, maybe not. Ballistically, ....
