1886, I've done that with my 94s also. Mostly I found it to be the way I was benching the rifle. If I rest the rifle on the sand bag each shot moves the rifle. So the rest changes. I finally started resting my forearm on the bag and holding the rifle as if I was shooting off hand. That seems to help...

Great report, great tiny groups. But we need a pic of the rifle too.

I think the deal with the misfires caused by the rebounding action is tolerances and roughness in that action design. When everything is within the proper tolerances and smooth they work, otherwise they don't.

I would suggest a nice mid to late 1970s vintage carbine. They are usually in good shape, the prices are usually reasonable and they are great for someone who hasn't had a lot of experiance with lever guns. If you can find a late pre-64 that's good to, but I wouldn't exclude any of the post-64 guns....

Joe, the gap measures right at .002 and looking down the barrel with one of those fiber optic mag light attachments it looks like every chamber lines up spot on. It has the normal side to side play but no front to back at all. It actually fits better than the .22LR cylinder. That should do it then....

You've either got a bad batch of primers, or they got contaminated.

When next you size your cases clean them after sizing and expanding. BEFORE you prime them.

That's what I do.


Just for my curiosity why are you using mag primers in a 30-30?

I prefer blades or posts on the front when I have a peep sight on the rifle.

If it's using regular open sights I can live with a bead.

I use the 6:00 hold for the same reason as Griff, I want to see what I'm shooting at. I've never been able to hit anything by covering it with the front sight.
