Range report - Burris FastFire on Winchester 54
Finally got a chance to try out my Winchester 54 carbine in .30 WCF in which I mounted one of the new Burris FastFire red-dot minature scopes. Getting it zeroed was kind of a ' by gosh and by golly' maneuver. There are no indicators on the adjustments screws for windage and elevation, so I had to fi...

Re: Question about Winchester 1907 .351
My Dad killed the biggest buck of his life in 1940 with a Winchester 1907 .351 SL. It was a 10-pointer and weighed 254 pounds! Buck stood up at 50 yards broadside and when the 180 grain bullet struck him my Dad said it was like someone pulled all four legs out from under him. These guns were popular...

Re: OT: Blackpowder Rifles, Sidelock OR Inline...
I also own and hunt with an Omega X-7 Carbine, scoped at that! Here in the big woods of northern New England, deer hunting is not 'easy'. I truly wish some of you fellows who are in parts of the country where deer hunting boils down to deciding how big an 8-pointer you want to settle for, could try ...

Re: Burris FastFire Red Dot Scope - use on vintage guns
Just got back to the forum and see that there are some members who object to the 'red-dot' technology on vintage guns. Well, I have to admit that it was a bitter pill for me to swallow too. I hate change too, but I will grudgingly accept it if it truly is for the better. I have used iron sights all ...

Burris FastFire Red Dot Scope - use on vintage guns
Have any members had experience with the Burris FastFire red-dot scope? I have a Winchester 54 Carbine bolt gun in .30 WCF in excellent original condition which I acquired last winter. It has a period vintage Redfield receiver sight on it which I have been using, even though my 6-decade old eyes are...

Re: Did Winchester Deliver Model 71s without a steel butt plate.
From a collectors standpoint, I would be very leery of any 71 with a recoil pad, however. For every factory installed pad, at least 50 were probably put on later by owners. I have been at the Winchester collector business for 50 years and have NEVER seen what I felt was a legitimate 71 with a factor...

Re: Model 71 bolt peep sight
Last I knew, Williams offered their Foolproof model for the 71. Push comes to shove, the sight for the 94 model will work just fine. Only difference is in the width of the crossarm. Actually, I always thought the 94 model sight looked better on the gun.

Re: Poll--What should be the next Marlin caliber?
How about a .33 WCF in a straight-grip 1895 with tapered 22" barrel and NO CHECKERING! I wish somebody at Marlin would wise up and drop that current checkering pattern they have used for what seems like forever. I know its a personal thing, but I just like the looks of smooth walnut on a tradit...

Re: Marlin Model 1894CL .218 Bee
I also owned a Browning 65 back when they first came out and had a Lyman 66 installed on it (don't know why Browning didn't factory D&T this rifle?). It was a very good shooting gun!

Re: Marlin Model 1894CL .218 Bee
Thanks for the comments. I have owned two Winchester 65 models in .218 Bee and both shot exceptionally well. The first one, with the bolt peep, would hold five shots in 1 to 1 1/4" at 100 yards. The other would shoot 1.5" all day long. I consider that 'accurate' with iron sights. The two M...

Marlin Model 1894CL .218 Bee
Hello All. Been gone awhile, but glad to be back. Need a little info. and hope some of the members can help. Yesterday I picked up a Marlin 1894CL in .218 Bee. It is new-in-the-box. I checked back in my library of old catalogs and found that this model was discontinued in 1993. I know it was made in...
