Re: barrell length and velocity
That peep sight on my 20" carbine is actually quick to acquire for me as it's right there next to your cheek. This summer I was shooting 8" steel plates at 100 yds with it and sometimes I'd see how fast I could follow-up. Works so well for me that I added one to my Mossberg 464 30-30. Now ...

Re: barrell length and velocity
Personally I don't think the velocity gained by a longer barrel is as beneficial as the sighting radius gained by the extra length! Having an extra 4"-8" of extra barrel length with iron sights is a huge factor in more accurate shooting. That's why a tang sight on a rifle is so beneficial...

Remember, your results may vary either up or down as I live at over 6,000 ft and Colorado is very dry so the air is less dense. That said, I posted that info on the old Rossi website before it went under and several other handloaders posted that they got similar results; one got even higher velociti...

Just goes to show that much of what you read on the interweb needs to be taken with a grain of salt. As to the above comment on the Dillon press, I've had a 550B, 650, and now a 750 for a total of 25 years and over 300K rds and Unique meters quite well, primers seat correctly, and all three have pre...

You have come to the right place with your question. First of all, I have both a Rossi .357 Mag 20" Carbine and a Rossi 24" rifle. I've had both since 2009 and shot thousands of rounds through each. They are hands down my favorite rifles to take to the range and also out 'woods walking' in...

Steve, That kinda looks like Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone NP. You can teach the kids to stay away, not so much with the tourists. .. Yep, outside our valley is open space and it finally dried out this fall so it does remind one of Yellowstone. We're not worried about most kids that have lived...

I hopeful that when you 'part it out' and sell off what you don't need you find you made a great deal. We run a series of NRA classes at our range including ones for new shooters. Pros: Easy to use and set up. Not dependent upon good lighting. Waterproof (are you really going to be using it in the rain though?)
Cons: Spendy. In my opinion, at $600 most will find a way not to buy it.

I don't think just drilling a hole in the nose of a FMJ round will cause it to peal back into petals like a HP round. Likely, all you'd have is a FMJ with a hole in it as the jacket is fairly thick compared to a HP bullet as they are designed to stay in one piece and not expand. Further, in pistol c...
