Re: Blackhawk fans
I picked up a New Flattop .44 special about 2 weeks ago. I love the thing. Much smaller than my Vaqueros in 44 mag. As a matter of fact, I like the flattop so much, I'm really thinking about selling my 44 mags.

Re: How not to practice up for hunting season
Or maybe they don't shoot offhand at deer!
I don't do much offhand rifle shooting in practice, because I don't do much to any while hunting. I find something to lean on or I shoot in a laying position with a bipod. All these guys shooting off hand are what wound deer IMHO.

Re: Best venison recipe from our pros or experts?
We eat lots and lots of venison. Last year I had five tags and my wife had one and we filled them all. Anyway, I have one word for you: Crockpot. You don't need to marinade, you don't need to throw anything out after a night of refrigeration. Just throw the roast in when you get up in the morning, t...

Re: OT - this is one long horse ride.
There's more to it than just puttin' on the saddle and hittin' the trail. In the old days, you could count on facilities and feed everywhere. Not now, though. Travel was slow not just because of the speed of a horse. It took a lot of time to allow for resting the animal. You've got that right. That...

Re: Ammo price. Who buy's it?
Those prices are outrageous. They're for the fellows who take one shot at the range to see if they are sighted in and then go hunting, take three shots at a buck before it runs away, so their total for the year is 4 shots @ $2 each, which amounts to $8 (but no buck). The last box of ammo I bought w...

That saddle blooper is pretty funny. I kind of doubt the Duke won that saddle in the Pacific Coast Cutting Horse Association, so it musta been borrowed.

Definitely has to be the 1860 in .44, at least in my book. Don't buy a 1851 in .44, since that was never actually produced. If you buy an 1851, get a .36, which is period correct.

I use the LFCD on .44 mag, .44 special, .32 H&R Mag, .30-06, and .223. I really like it and it does a great job smoothing the neck.

Re: Puma blow back
Yup, I do wear glasses when I target shoot, but that isn't very often. But when it is in the pickup and I stop to take a shot at a rabbit, skunk, etc., I'd like to be able to shoot without. I know a lot of people take a gun to a range and can go completely prepared for shooting, but out here, I can ...

That probably explains things. I am running fairly light loads. I'm handloading 200 grain lead bullets over 6.4 grains of Unique (Per Lee Reloading Manual). I guess I might have to spice them up a bit. Thanks guys.

Puma blow back
I just bought a Puma M92 44 carbine on gunbroker. I love the little rifle and how it handles, but I've noticed that if I shoot it without glasses, it is spitting something (pressure, lead, powder, ????) back into my eyes. Is this normal, or do I have to have the little rifle checked out? Thanks in a...

The sheriff definitely called it a Henry, but it was certainly a Winchester.
The scene was pretty good until, under machine-gun fire, the guy reaches up to adjust the sight before taking the shot.

You don't have to be that old. I'm 28 and a horse broke my wrist this summer. A steel plate, six screws and a handful of pins later, my wrist is pretty much back to normal.Old Savage wrote:Not good to drop any of the 50+ crowd from five to six feet on the ground.

We're getting more of those cats here in North Dakota. Last fall when pheasant hunting in deep, deep, deep cover, it ran through my mind a time or two. Good to see this guy was prepared.

Winchester Model 1890 Shipping Crate
Hello guys, I have a question that I'm hoping somebody will know the answer to. I have a Winchester Model 1890 Shipping Crate that I somehow ended up with this summer. It is far from perfect and I'm pretty sure it originally didn't come painted blue. One end of the crate is stamped "10 Winchest...

Don't get me started on how great your Dakota hunting licenses are Cowboy. North Dakota has a one week residence only duck season before non-residence people can hunt. If this will get me more realistic hunting licenses from North and South Dakota, I'm with them. Maybe if the Native Americans ran those States, I would like heading west to hunt a little more than I do now. Eric Eric, This really bugged me, so I did some checking. Both ND and MN charge the exact sa...
