Thank you for posting this, I can hardly wait to see Part 2!!
Now that is one pretty 1886. Uberti makes so many versions of the 86, some carbine length, some with and without the tang safety. This is the nicest of them all IMO. Would love to see this one in 444 Marlin.

Re: Gorgeous lever gun, but why?
Yes, there are a couple of different things Uberti really could have/should have with this carbine (depending on if they wanted a SRC or an Eastern Carbine). Shrapnel pointed out the barrel band location and he's exactly right. If they had wanted the traditional SRC look, they should have moved the ...

Re: Gorgeous lever gun, but why?
The debate about which cartridge is better than another reminds me of the ongoing articles in Guns & Ammo and Shooting Times from the 70s and 80s when one of the cover feature articles always seemed to be "What's better for deer: 270 or 30-06?" And then at the end of the article, the l...

Re: Gorgeous lever gun, but why?
Looking at some Pedersoli leverguns on their website, it seems that the tang safety is not present on all models. As much as I hate tang safeties like probably most traditionalists, at least Pedersoli left the half cock in the mechanism and does not employ the rebounding hammer as found on new Winch...

Not to take away from the Prvi 44 Magnum ammo, but something I encountered with Prvi 45-70 is that the recoil pushed the bullet deeper into a few cartridges. Fortunately, I only bought one box so my 1886 Browning turned into a single shot for the remainder of the the 20 rounds. Anyone else experienc...

That 1952 ad with the "Texan" carbines shows them with rounded levers. Mine is later and has a squared one like the OP's. When did Marlin make this change over?

Agreed about pistol grips on lever guns. The only ones I actually don't mind is the Win 65 and Win 71, although if there were a choice between pistol grip or straight stock on either, I'd take the straight one every day of the week.

Same here, it really looks so much better this way. I had mine rebarreled to 25-35 with the barrel being 18". Also slimmed down the forearm by getting rid of the belly and some of the width to be even with the barrel band. Beautiful little carbine and caliber.

Ridered350r, you're correct about the hammer being converted to the "original half-cock style safety notch" (as Turnbull quotes it on their website). Somehow I was always under the impression they used the remainder of Browning 1886 hammers in existence. They must also have to modify the t...

It would be interesting to know what Turnbull will charge for replacing the rebounding hammer with the original style and getting rid of the tang safety. Equally interesting would be to know where they get the hammers and triggers to do these conversions. The supply of Browning B92 hammers and trigg...
