Mike Mike I've seen a few original 50 EX 86’s, even own one or two, and converted a bunch. There are several areas that need modification: the loading gate both front and back, the CTG guides, the carrier, the S-Hook, and sometimes the frame (two possibly three areas), and occasionally the mag tube....

Re: Uh Oh, problem with the 1875

Black max is some strong tough stuff; I use it on assemblies that I don’t plan to take apart. Couple of years ago I had an old SXS double that came in; the owner didn’t want it shootable, but presentable. The bottom rib was loose in a couple of spots, one of those, it wasn’t cost effective to remove...

Rotary Dovetail On a Winchester Mag Ring slot; the mag ring is twisted into place. There is about a 40 thous undercut on either side of the shoulder that the lips of the mag ring base rotate into. Re: Any tips on cutting a dovetail in a barrel Afghan style?

As stated earlier, if it’s a rotary dovetail like the ones used on original Winchesters, you’re not going to do it by hand. If it’s a straight dovetail, yes you can do it by hand…but it’s best to do it with machine. Many of those cuts the depth of cut needs to be fairly specific; on Winchesters it’s...

Colt changed the lock-up on their later revolvers. The very early Troopers and Pythons had a "two hand" locking mechinism, Basically a hand with two steps on it, one to turn the cylinder, the other to hold the cylinder once the bolt engages. Colt changed this on their later revolvers, most...
