Re: 1876 Centennial

I've read most posts there and are of help but really need somebody that has both rifles and good set of calipers to do a pictorial. I can buy original parts but very pricey and most not in good shape. Uberti parts are cheap and better metallurgy.

I can't remember if I asked this here before. I have a stripped 1876 WRA frame which I bought to built a shooter. Wondering if any of the major parts from Uberti will work? Bolt, links, sideplates, hammer ? I was planning on making most parts but I just don't have time it never seems. There was some i...

Re: I was in Fredricksburg yesterday and stopped in to see the new Cimarron guns

Chiappa branded calls it the Rio Bravo as it depicts the 1892 John Wayne used in the movie . Cimnaron calls same rifle the Cogburn . Both have the large loop Wayne toted in movies.

The originals he used were in 44 WCF and the one from Stagcoach was 32 WCF

Well, this might cause some flak, but I believe in vaccines. I had the shingles shot. From the misery I've seen folks have I'm glad I did. To tell the truth, I have no sympathy for parents who refuse to vaccinate their kids and then the kids get things like measles, rubella, mumps and chicken pox. ...

I agree mini mills and lathe milling attachments are like learning a new process. You can't crowd either. You better know the diffferance climb cutting and conventional milling makes. Or you'll be in for a rude awakening. I use collets to run endmills and flycutters with spindle of my 12x36 lathe. 7...

Re: Double checking. Can .22 WRF be safely fired in a .22 Magnum?

For a long time WRF was expensive to shoot . Now .22 WMR is that way . Good news is I saw WMR as cheap as $16 last month. CCI JHP is wonderful in the 1890 or Remington model 12 WRF rifles. I probably would not shoot it in any handgun per their warnings. But as stated Winchester lubaloy copper plated...

The 1894 encompasses the same old time features as far as safety and sear catch , hammer , mainspring as earlier 1873 and 1876 rifles. Removable tang. About only thing in an 1894 that can...

The MG42 came out to replace the very labor intensive MG34. A much simpler design using stamped sheet metal for the receiver and FCG. Easy to maintain , quick barrel changes, high rate of fire but yet capable of rate reducing enhancements. With heavier bolt carrier group. The barrel houses an extens...

The interesting part is not all turned maroon . And sometimes it was only certain parts like loading gates . It's definatly a product of investment casting. Alloy may contribute too but look at the old Savage frames when reblued they are deep maroon if dip blued.

Those maroon frames were the product of 4140 casting reaction . Lot of guns left the factory that way . So many Ruger released a statement saying this and they would attempt to refinish if desired but no guarantee.

Typically ramps were silver brazed when it's in the white.
The braze is usually hidden under the sight .

Early on pre war Winchesters the ramp was part of the barrel forging. But later it changed to silver braze. One would assume Browning used the later method.

Not real common, in that configuration . The Whelen fluted comb shotgun butt carbines are more common. Buttplate is shorter and has no spur. These are often encountered with half mags and Eastern style no ring. Post WW1 - 1930 ish.
