my 1972 Win 94 has a crescent brass buttplate. I have found an unfinished walnut stock and buttplate. Should I change it to the regular buttstock and butt plate???

Thank you all for your replies. I very much appreciate the time taken. I will maybe research a home rust blueing process as I do not want to take the chance of a long turnaround time from a gunsmith and have to go without during our hunting season which starts first week of Sept. Need some input with my failed attempt at wood filler.

Picked up a Winchester 94 that was plastered with decorative tacks. Was going to walk away from it originally until after running the seriel number, i discovered it is of my birth year circa 1972. I have been looking for a 1972 for almost twenty years when i first got very intereted in lever guns. A...

My circa 1972 Win 94 has a bit of that horrid flaking on the reciever the post 64's are famous for. Short of utilizing a gunsmith's hot blue tanks, what can a fella do? G96 cold blue wasn't the answer!! LOL

Awesome pix. great looking country! lets hear more on the Lever Hunted Moose east of Valley View in 1976, great trip ollogger I received the Winchester a couple weeks ago. I have often thought what a compact single shot shotgun would be like as a camp gun so i decided to make one. shooting plain based hard casts with IMR 3031 in a Win94??

Anyone have any luck with shooting plain based bullets in a Winchester 94 .30 .30 using IMR 3031?
Hoping for 1300 to 1600fps. Bullets are 25 BHN. We are experiencing a powder shortage up here and all I have is IMR 3031 currently. Thank you for any input.

I thank you for your report. I have the same Trapper in a 1979 vintage. Its by far my favorite gun in the locker. I shoot a 170 grain bullet with 31 grains of IMR 3031. It gives me milk jug accuracy at 100 yards and i have yet to shoot it for groups or chrony the velocity.

Doesn't impress me. Do that with a levergun that has some recoil, then you have to reaquire your target after every shot.
Doing it with something other than a lttle pop gun would impress me more. The skill in those vids is way over rated.
