I think that would work well. I’m thinking that I might do the same with my 1917 Smith revolver.

Both loads left no visible residue in the barrel. The 9 gr Unique load shoots to the sights. I think I’m going to be happy with this.

I think the 86 was more popular in some places than others.

You don’t see a lot of these rifles in the hands of Texas Rangers for example. But there are some.

For example one of my Texas Ranger relatives clearly has an 86 in his hand in this photo.

I’ve never felt the need to do anything about the chamber throats on any .357 or .44

But it seems that every Ruger in .45 Colt needed to be opened up a bit.

If your throats are too tight you can ream them out yourself by renting a reamer on line. I’ve done a few and this is easy and difficult to screw up. A 325 grain bullet over 10 gr of Unique is a very powerful load that is easy to shoot and has reasonable muzzle blast. Jeff Quinn came up with this load and it’s a good one.

I’ve been shooting this 1957 version and I find that it shoots better from my hand than almost anything else.

I was able to shoot them in the 1873 Winchester this morning and 9 gr Unique averaged 1200.8 fps.

They are coated. Leaves revolver and rifle barrels clean.

No grooves at all. I’m seating them to 1.580.

I’m experimenting with a 230 gr hollow base bullet from Bear Creek Supply. It shoots super clean in my guns and is proving to be white accurate.

I’m afraid the only .45 ACP I’ve loaded in years has been with a 200 gr H&G 68.

You can push that bullet hard like Jeff Cooper suggested and you can easily kill deer or hogs with it.

I just like a sixgun better these days.
