Re: I'm about to go for it - BLR barrel
BeeKay, it is an interesting project. I am looking forward to your updates. JBowen I intend to make sure it turns out right (sort of a pun, considering it entails lathe work) Probably the most challenging part, other than cutting threads into stainless, will be to get the headspacing correct over t...

Re: I'm about to go for it - BLR barrel
From another web site, your mileage may vary: “Pull that little pin out with a vice grip plier . When you clamp onto the pin turn it a bit-- Then it should pull out--There is nothing really holding it in but pressure Of an oversize pin in a smaller hole-- next clamp the barrel tightly in a barrel v...

I understand you. MIne is in 358 Winchester also, great cartridge and you can really make the most of it handloading in the strong BLR action. -Tutt I tried some LeverRevolution behind the Barnes bullets and was shooting groups that surprised me at 100 yd. Re: I'm about to go for it - BLR barrel
The back of a BLR takedown barrel looks very similar to an AR barrel except for the dimensions. The design of the part has numerous similarities. In AR circles, it's referred to as a Barrel Extension and it's threaded on and held in place with a pin. I've never taken one off an AR , but the Barrel E...

Re: I'm about to go for it - BLR barrel
It's easier to see in this pic with a stainless barrel.
I have to remove that pin or dowell or stud before the lugs can be removed by unthreading.
I'm not sure how it's held in place so that makes removal difficult.
Thanks to anyone with helpful advice

IMG_20220831_151226.jpg Anyone have an idea how to remove the peg or stud that locates the barrel lug extension. I'm not sure what reference terms are used for these parts - It vares from one manufacturer to the next . It's most commonly referred to as 'Barrel Extension' in AR circles, The 'Extensi...

I'm about to go for it - BLR barrel
I bought a Stainless.308 BLR Takedown Model several years ago - and just like a lot of others, I started trying to look into getting a different caliber barrel so the gun could have a bit more versatility and just because it's neat... Only to discover that there are a lot of hurdles and they make it...

Re: BLR takedown barrel swap solution?
I may end up sending this to a barrel-smith. I have skill operating a lathe, as I worked as a machinist several years ago. But threading stainless that is hardened is something that takes some practice. And I don't even own a lathe. A neighbor offered to let me use his for a day, to do work on a few...

Re: BLR takedown barrel swap solution?
Yes - thank you very much, Tycer That is incredibly helpful! The measurements are almost all metric, but the threaded area with the sleeve containing the lugs is 15/16" - 20 unf. I'll have to see where I can get with that. It's better to look at a picture than to just tear the thing apart, espe...

BLR takedown barrel swap solution?
I bought a BLR last year, and got the idea that if I could have interchangeable barrels it would make a good gun even better... Being that the barrel comes off, why not? It would be like a Remington 870 that someone could morph to suit various applications, by changing the chambering. I know I'm not...

I think it is odd that he brought so MANY firearms to the scene. One or two 'spares' for an important hunt/competition/mission, makes sense, as it would if the 'mission' is some twisted homicidal spree. It just smells of something set up for a 'media event', with all the 'scary stuff' there for all...

McDonalds does have pretty decent coffee. I am not an expert, but I know what I like. Weak coffee just does not taste right to me. I like the Starbucks blonde roast as an alternative on occasion. Well - I got to the range for the first time with the .358 and 44 gr of 4895 with a Speer 180 JSP worked well. But I was pleasantly surprised that the 158 gr JSP handgun bullets, that wouldn't feed for me at home, started feeding just fine. Those were over a powder charge of 24 gr of 4227. So I can ...

Single feed the rounds. Right........if that's all your doing is plinking or target shooting it's no big deal...you can also buy cast bullets or cast em yourself....I shoot Savage 99's in 358, 1895 Winchesters in 35 wcf, Remington 141's and 14's in 35 Rem. Re: .358 win / BLR doesn't feed handgun bullets
Yep - I have the .308 in Takedown, and I thought it would be awesome to have a .358 and shoot handgun bullets, just to have some budget handloads that are 1/3 the cost of factory. My .358 scratches the heck out of the jacket and the brass when it feeds. No matter what bullet I use, but it's worse wi...

.358 win / BLR doesn't feed handgun bullets
I bought a BLR in .358 Winchester, a few months ago and I'm finally getting around to firing it this weekend. I already have a .308 BLR and I like it and I thought it might be good to get a .358 Win, because of the possibility that I could throw together loads with handgun bullets for economical pli...

Re: What turned you on to guns?
Guns weren't a part of my family life, being that my mom's brother was killed in a hunting accident shortly after returning from WW2, and mom wouldn't allow guns in the home. I remember being sort of afraid of guns as a kid. That puts me a sort of unique position of actually being able to identify w...

Re: Does anyone here know how to work on BLRs - Trigger job
BeeKay, I don't recall all the specifics but I think most people don't realize there are at least 3 iterations of BLR and the attachments of their barrels. Early steel Belgian and Japanese rifles do have threads but have really good Loctite so must be heated to 350 or so to break them loose. Light ...

Hobie's web site has instructions (maybe a link) for assembly/disassembly of the BLR. I've had a few apart and back together successfully. Re: Does anyone here know how to work on BLRs - Trigger job
You don't need to take the bolt out to work on the trigger. I just replaced the trigger return spring with a lighter one and dropped the trigger pull by 2 .5 pounds. They use a very heavy spring to push the trigger forward for reset. I beleive I had to remove the rear pin in the receiver. Which has...

This isn't a post by someone who took his BLR apart and can't get it back together. I'm inquiring in advance I'd show pics, but my camera isn't that good and the parts are too tiny. I've studied the trigger mechanism and I'm seeing that once the stock is removed, you can knock a pin out and remove a...

I had to start over a few yrs ago I made the decision to buy stainless if possible because with costal weather conditions, condensation is inevitable. Re: I bought 3 BLRs
I should include here that I am leaning toward a larger bore rather that maybe .243 or 7mm because in CA there is now a lead ban for hunting ammo. And Barnes solids appear to perform best with bigger calibers unless very high velocity is used. The twist rate of my .308 is 1:14 - I wonder how that co...
