Re: Any love for the Browning BLR?

I was considering one in .30-06 as a reliable go to gun for pig and deer - something I currently don’t have.. plenty of guns but none I’m confident with to do the deed. Going to have a sell off and maybe convert to mostly lever actions. Trying to revamp an interest in firearms they nearly died after...

Any love for the Browning BLR?

Anyone have any comments about them? I didn’t end up getting a Winchester 88. I’m on the wall about BLR’s as to whether they’re alright looking or just ugly..

Seeking a general hunting rifle, thinking a BLR in .30-06 may be the go. But as said, unsure if I like how they look still..

Re: Lever action 12 gauge from Turkey (FLN)

A fellow on another forum I’m on got an uzkon lever shotgun. Used it on pigs. Broke most things that could break and wore out quickly (under several thousand rounds.). He did take hundreds of pigs with it in the less than a year he had it.. But yeah, we’re getting heaps of different shotgun designs ...

Colt lightning rifles - who’s a fan?

Well; I know this is a levergun forum but I’ll ask anyway.

Anyone here have an original Colt Lightning? Especially a large frame? I’ve always wanted one for a hunting gun.

Thoughts on them? Pics? Would love to see!

Re: Is a true 70-150 on an 1887 (clone?) actually doable?

I’ve heard so many alternate stories on these too. I’ve heard there was 1 made, but no one seems to know where it is (surely a Winchester collector would be after it for sure???), then I’ve heard that the cartridge for some reason would lock up the gun if fired in it? Something to do with the extrac...

Re: Is a true 70-150 on an 1887 (clone?) actually doable?

12 gauge is .729-.730, so I dont see how it couldn't be done. Although I bet you might have a hard time finding a barrel for .700 . Just wondering about that bottleneck. Unless it’s not an issue. There’s a few sources for .700 barrels (thanks to the invention of the .700 nitro). Maybe if I’m ever c...

Is a true 70-150 on an 1887 (clone?) actually doable?

For interests sake - can you actually convert a Winchester or clone 1887 into a true .70-150? With the bottle neck in .705ish bullets in the 600 and 900gr weights?

I don’t mean just putting a rifled 12 gauge barrel on either.

Cheers,
Troy.

Re: Winchester 73 and 92: what were they made for?

Wow, thanks guys! Great responses, and the last one about it originally being a rifle cartridge sure was an eye opener and something I never realised. Debating on selling my M1910 Mannlicher Schoenauer to pick up a ‘73, but I don’t think I could do BP clean up... can they take light smokeless? Eh, t...

Re: New Zealand shooting.

Carlsen - interesting hearing a NZ opinion on it. It feels over here in Aus they’re kicking up a bigger thing about it than over there. And you’re right, it all played exactly how he intended with the attention and worldwide talk. His manifesto even mentions the intention of getting a gun ban in NZ!...

Winchester 73 and 92: what were they made for?

Historically speaking: what was the orignal purpose of these guns? I know deer weren’t as bullet proof back then as today (haha!). I’m guessing they were defense, smaller deer and fur? As the 76 and 86 were both in more powerful caliber were they merely to increase range or for larger game? Or both,...

Winchester 88

Hey guys, Looking at MAYBE getting a Winchester 88 (post 64) in .243 for a general purpose gun. From spotlighting fox to maybe trying to bag my first deer. Who’s got an 88, opinions on them? Accuracy etc? (All the usual considerations). Would love to hear people’s experience with them and if they’re...
