Re: Case failures, new ammo, kind of OT
Now, I’ve only been shooting centerfire cartridges since 1982. So no, I don’t know everything. I do however spend an inordinate of time/money sending lead down range into steel gongs, coyotes, deer and feral hogs. Or small vermin like rabbits, squirrels, possums and raccoons. And generally shoot a 2...

Case failures, new ammo, kind of OT
I think I killed my .308 bolt action. Went target shooting, standard 250yd for fun gongs. Brand new box of 147gr fmj steel cased factory rounds. You know, generic mil-spec plinking rounds. Had an “off” sound halfway through tbe box. Bolt opened very stiffly. Cartridge failed to extract let alone eje...

Great video and great shooting by him. I wish the kids in the family would get into the shooting scene but, even the certified range master’s sons find it boring.

Based in the greater Pornland Whoregon metroplex, so... why exactly is this a surprise? Once you get away from that area, Oregon has lots of normal people. Just like you have to get away from the Putrid Sound Basin to find normal people in Washington. Puyallup born. Raised next to Fort Lewis and McC...

It’s back home. Still have to order a new rear sight. Bench fired group, single loaded, down to 3/4” at 150 yards. Side mounted scope used during load development. Shot off a front cradle bolted to the bench. Offhand, magazine fed, group average is 1.25” for 5 shot groups at 100 yards. 185gr lrn, ca...

Only Glock I have/shoot is a 36. A gift from a retired skip chaser. Compact .45acp, little aftermarket support but gets the job done. Only other “evil automatic” I have is a 1937 proofed VZ24. Fair to middling tolerable, kinda small for my hand. Good shooter if you use nothing but mil spec ball ammu...

Refinished a 1958 Stevens 94c for the wife last month. She loves loves loves .410 and .22lr, pretty much won’t shoot anything else. Except an old beater no name 16g Featherweight clone (actually mine) that she swapped me a humpback Remington 20g (her grandfather’s) for. There is also an H&R Hand...

The new loading seats a .314 lead round nose for one in chamber one in mag tube loading, lead flat nose for standard one in chamber full mag tube loading. Bullet weights of 180-190 grains. Loaded...

Still a nice looking 94. I like the gumwood src buttstock. If folks would shoot them off the bicep (as designed/intended) instead of the shoulder, more would be around... That buttplate is a hold over from muzzle loader days. The pamphlet that came with our older production Great Plains .54 caplock ...

Rough patch where the chamber becomes the bore. Ran a reamer in and it came out with chips on it. If I order a barrel or get a gunshow one, it will be a 24-28”. Which will then need a full sized rifle forearm and buttstock. The length of pull on a carbine is already too short. I’d rather custom load...

Chamber is fixed. Rifle is still in the shop, he’s working up a proper load for the odd rifling depth. So far a Lyman 311041 mold is giving tolerable results. Trying different alloys, so... He’s basically tailoring micro-groove Marlin bullets for normal barrels. Takes what it takes. Cold rainy day. ...

SRC is at the gun doctor. He’s going to pull the barrel and run a reamer through the chamber, see if it smooths it out. Took him the unfired lead dummy round and a couple fired cases so he could see what it has been doing. He’s also going to sonic clean the bore, again. I hope this fixes its hiccups...

Guess I’ll be taking the eastern style round barrel shotgun butt to the shoot instead. Gotta pull the scope back off.
Probably the sling too... magazine mounted at the front, secured under the steel butt plate at the rear. Made it out of an old belt, perfect single wrap length.

Lead looks like someone set a cold chisel on it and gave it a tap. Has always ejected empty cases with a bit of a burr at the mouth. Slugging the barrel shows it was rifled way too deep for a standard .308/.309 jacketed bullet. .3135 grooves. Unfired brass has no wiggle room in the chamber, fired br...

It functions better than it ever has. First shell was cocked in the magazine tube, took a second working of the lever to get it to feed. Second round fed like green grass through a goose. .32 Special doesn’t fit. A .32acp is close at the crown.
I have almost as much fun figuring out each gun’s particular quirks as I do shooting them.
You want odd? My 1873 SAA clone in .44wcf will perfectly chamber .44spl in 4 out of 6 holes. They shouldn’t fit at all...

Slugs right at .3135” Gun is apart right now, really easy to make a quick wax cast (.313) followed by using an M1 cleaning rod to knock a piece of buckshot throught the bore. Barrel crown is fine, no burrs. Feels a little shallow compared to the 1965 round barrel crown. The 1965 buttstock fits the 1967 receiver better than the one it came on. Stock has been repaired for years. Could honestly use one at least 2 inches longer in the wrist.
