Re: Midway says that CCI primers are a discontinued item
I went on Midway and looked at this, these items are not even listed on their website now. Small CCI primers are, but not the specific items in the APS strips like they're saying are discontinued, so it could be true. The rest of the primers just say out of stock.

Brad Johnson Winchester rifles
I was wondering if anyone knows if Brad Johnson (the actor) still does any work with old Winchester rifles at all? I don't see anything listed for a website and I knew at one time it was called Johnson's Winchesters, but I can't find much on that at all online.

Found a good cast load for the 1894 Winchester .32-40
I really can't say how much I enjoy the Model 1894 Winchester rifle I got back in early October. I had never owned a .32-40 before but I've had 1894's in every other caliber, and I had heard that they can be very accurate. I went out, handloaded some Hornady 170 grain jacketed soft point rounds for ...

Marlin '94 hammer (mainspring)
I need to replace the hammer (main) spring in my Marlin '94, this is an earlier gun so it doesn't have the coil spring of the newer guns. I've had a heck of a time trying to find one. Numrich has a wire spring they set fits the earlier guns, but as far as I knew, they were like mine, a flat spring.

Replacing cartridge guides on an 1894 Winchester
I have an early 1894 Winchester that has some worn out cartridge guides that need to be replaced, these are the older style where the screw heads are on the inside of the receiver. Has anyone ever had to take them out before? What did you use since there's no way to get a screwdriver in there and so...

The 1894 Winchester in .32-40 got it done tonight
Tonight the most recent old time of mine, I just got it about three weeks ago, an 1894 Winchester in .32-40 got it done tonight. Shot this 5 point buck at about 50 plus yards, went a couple hundred yards, bleeding like a stuck pig all the way in the snow before he gave up the ghost. Not bad for an o...

Winchester 1894 .32-40 to the range
Got the .32-40 Winchester 1894 out today, using some Hornady .321" 170 grain bullets, usually what you would see in a .32 Special, same diameter. Five shot group at 30 yards was pretty good, very mild, shoots like a dream. Going to work up a few more of these tonight and will take the Wincheste...

The Marlin 410 and another squirrel for the stew
My first squirrel of the season, I've since gotten another with another gun, I took with my Marlin 410 shotgun. This gun is just so much fun to hunt with and points so naturally. I got this grey back in mid September with a load of #6 shot. My son was with me and can't wait to go squirrel hunting ne...

Acquired a couple more leverguns a Savage 1899 & Winchester 1894
Well, I acquired a couple more lever guns over the last little while, one being a Savage 1899F carbine in .30-30, which has to be one of the nicest handling lever guns I've ever gotten. It was made in 1924, solid frame but at one time someone "checkered" the forearm which wasn't the best w...

Sweden, not just good for Ikea and meatballs
I was looking for a real hunting shotgun to use for hunting next year and for some small game hunting besides my .410 but I really wanted an old double barrel. I looked at a lot of newer double barrels, none really caught my attention. I found a few really nice older ones, but the prices scared me a...

Picked up a gun just for the fun value
A little while back I picked up a gun just for the fun of it, something I don't often do. I got a Pedersoli Baker Cavalry shotgun, a muzzleloading double barrel 20 gauge with 11 1/4" barrels. This gun is legal because as a muzzleloader it falls under the antique firearm rule. I took it to the r...

I snagged a pair of Winchester 1894 special order rifles
My local gun shop has picked up an entire collection of Winchester 1894 rifles, all with special order features, one or another from one collector who was about 80 years old. There were five calibers, all the original rounds of the 1894, .25-35, .30-30, .32 Special, .32-40 and .38-55. All of these g...

The Marlin 410 to the range
I took the Marlin Model 410 to the range with some Remington 2 1/2" #6 shot to pattern it and try it out. The action is super slick, better than any new Marlin I have seen in a long time. The knob that I thought was for a cartridge stop didn't seem to affect it at all, so I am thinking there wa...

Re: The Marlin 410 has arrived
I took the gun outside this morning and loaded three rounds in the magazine with this knob screwed in all the way. The gun feeds just fine, smooth as glass actually, and ejects just fine too. If this knob was part of a shell or cartridge stop, there must have been a second part to it like a spring o...

The Marlin 410 has arrived
My Marlin 410 came in today. The action is slick as snot on a brass doorknob. I can't believe how light the gun is, compared to the newer Marlin 410's that were made on the 1895 and it's got to be a couple pounds lighter than the Henry .410 lever action. This one had some ivory inlays put in, and si...

I have always wanted a Model 71 for as long as I can recall. I have seen a few Winchester Model 71's over the years, most have been well out of my price range. Well, I did it again. I was looking for a .410 shotgun for small game hunting, and every shop I went to didn't have anything I wanted or fit me, so I looked around online at places I had bought from before, and found an original Marlin .410 lever action shotgun. This one being a deluxe model, howeve...

I took the Model 94 .30-30 Trapper takedown carbine to the range today. This gun was made in 1964 according to the serial number and started life as a regular Model 94 carbine. I Continue to Find the Strange and Unusual
I ran across something unusual today and decided to get it. Someone at one time took this .30-30 Model 94 Winchester, made it into a takedown gun, and also cut the barrel down to 16-inches like a trapper. The release is on the underside of the barrel where someone milled out the front barrel band an...

I rescued a relic from 1895
A few weeks ago I walked into a gun shop and found a well used 1894 Winchester rifle made in 1895 in one of my favorite calibers, .38-55. The gun has been around to say the least. Apparently the last owner was in his 70's and had used the gun up until the last year or so. The wood forearm was not or...

I picked up another .32-20 recently. I really looked around and wanted to make sure I found a good one, it took me a month to nail down a gun I really liked, and instead of it being another Winchester, I got this Marlin 1894. Marlin 1894 versus Winchester 1892
I have been trying to decide which rifle I want to pick up in .32-20, a Marlin 1894 or Winchester 1892. I have had the 1892 before and a couple of newer 1894CL rifles from the late 1980's, but never an early 1894. Both guns are around the same time period, the late 1910's-1920's. Which of the two te...

Re: Winchester 94 Transition rifle
Still a nice looking 94. I like the gumwood src buttstock. If folks would shoot them off the bicep (as designed/intended) instead of the shoulder, more would be around... That buttplate is a hold over from muzzle loader days. The pamphlet that came with our older production Great Plains .54 caplock...

I recently found a horde of Winchester & Browning Model 71 rifles in one gun shop. A guy in his 70's put his two Model 71 Winchester Deluxe rifles on consignment as well as three Browning Model 71's that were still new in the box. It seems this guy had a major thing for the Model 71 and bought t...

Winchester 94 .30-30 with light loads
I took my Model 94 out yesterday with the 110 grain Speer LRN bullets and 30.0 grains of Reloader 7, which is on the very low end of that load. It shot high, to be expected and when I finally got a decent 6 o'clock hold figured out, it shot some pretty wide groups and to the left. Compare that to th...

Was thinking about my grandfather's old Winchester 1894 .30-30 the other day. The earliest photo I have is with him and it's dated October, 1936. A couple of weeks ago I picked up a Winchester 94 in .30-30, known as a "transition" rifle. This gun was made in 1939, has the newer style of barrel but has the earlier receiver minus the saddle ring and earlier buttplate. It has an excellent bore and an action silky smooth. This gun came ...
