And the winner is..... Red Dot gets there with 3.2 grains and just under 50% load density. 4.5 grains of TrailBoss would do the same with the case almost plumb full. 3.3 grains of Hodgden Clays or 3.5 grains of Norma R1 at 50% load density look good also. And if you want an easy metering ball powde...

My scope is a Pentax 65Ed II which is about $100 above your price range but my second choice would have been the Leupold Ventana , which also ticked a lot of boxes for me. That being waterproof, nitrogen purged meaning also fog proof and angled eye piece.

If I really KNOW I'm going to have to shoot something that tries to kill me, and I don't have the option of staying home, I will either have my 375 Ruger if it is a single assailant, or my Saiga 12-gauge if there are multiple assailants. Yes, but if the bullet expanded in the first person yet didn't hit a vital organ, it could have lost enough velocity that it was less damaging in the second and third. it was more the 3x instant incapacitations with nothing fatal hit I was querying. I bit the bullet some time ago and put red dots on my iron sighted guns. an 1892 rossi 357 wears one at the moment. I have bad stigmatisms so the red dot is actually a long slash with a sort of right angle shape :D but its still easier to get on target than irons.
