Re: Ruger Old Army

The wad can be either a commercially product like a Wonder Wad, or home made if you cut them from 100% wool felt. I make my own with 1/8" thick wool felt from Durofelt and lube them with 100% pure neatsfoot oil (NOT neatsfoot oil compound) to keep the fouling soft. I've lubed them with Gatofeo...

Re: Ruger Old Army

Great find. Back in the 1970s my father shot a ROA in competition with the Marriottsville Muzzleloaders outside Baltimore and often brought home prizes in their meat shoots. Sometime back in the late 80s or 90s I traded a Savage 99T in .30 WCF to him for it. https://i.imgur.com/RyS7Zln.jpg When shoo...

Re: Behold the lowly wadcutter

My bedside S&W Model 10-5 is loaded with midrange wadcutters. I wanted a load that would provide decent terminal ballistics but without excessive blast and flash. Back in 2011 Ed Harris wrote a piece, "Revisiting the Full Charge Wadcutter" that's worth perusing if you haven't read it. ...

Current production Rossi 92s have the bolt mounted safety. A friend bought one (20" stainless .357) last month and it has the safety.

Thanks. I forgot to mention that I watched several YT videos. Ditto on the ejector collar. I did figure out how to get that to pop into place so I could fully depress the ejector, with the aid of a drift punch. I actually have a few items on order from Steve but I'd like to get this thing back toget...

Rossi 92 Reassembly Problem

I recently picked up an Interarms Model 65 (aka a Rossi 92) in .44 WCF. I detail stripped it to clean and debur the innards, which it really needed, but now I'm have a heck of a time reassembling it. I have the bolt, locking lugs, and lever back in. I inserted the hammer assembly and the lower tang....

Re: .44-40 BP reloading

Hello. I'm mostly a lurker here but this is how I load BP .44 WCF: * Starline brass * CCI or Federal LPP * 2.2cc of BP measured with a Lee dipper, preferably Swiss 3Fg, but I've also used Goex 2Fg and 3Fg because I have a stash. (2.2cc is approximately 35 grains.) * Bullet cast from an Accurate Mold...

Gentlemen, Thank you for the backhoe offers and offers to keep an eye out. I filed the report with the Plymouth Township PD this morning. Re: Stolen Winchester 1892

Thanks, gents.

AFAIK, USPS Postal Inspectors do not have jurisdiction, since it was sent by common carrier.

I insured the rifle for $1200 when I sent it, but the money isn't the point. It isn't like I'm going to find another 120 year Winchester 1892 just like this one.

I will file the claim with UPS tomorrow after I file the police report. I only learned that the rifle went MIA this afternoon after John Taylor called me to let me know that all he got was an empty box with some bubble wrap in it.

Re: Please recommend a mold for my Rossi 92 .357

Thanks, gents. I forgot to mention that I pan lube, so I'm want something with a flat base. Also, I'm aware that since they won't be gas checked I'll be limited to velocity. That's OK since they are mostly for banging steel plates at close range, not hunting. If the Rossi ever gets taken deer huntin...

Please recommend a mold for my Rossi 92 .357

I am looking at picking up a mold to cast bullets for my Rossi 92 Carbine in .357 Magnum. I'm looking at the following two designs from Accurate Molds: 36-155C 36-158C My intended use is primarily informal shooting with mild loads of smokeless powder (but not powder puff level CAS loads). I might tr...

Re: New Cimarron Henry

On Sunday I went over to a friend's place and we put 100 rounds through the rifle. 50 of the .44 Henry-equivalent load, and 50 of full-power .44 WCF with 35 grains of 3Fg Goex. The rifle ran smoothly and the bore did not foul out. It took only about 10 - 12 wet patches to clean it afterwards, and no...

You can get soft cast bullets for .44-40 sized to either .428 or .430 from Desperado Cowboy Bullets. http://www.cowboybullets.com. They come lubed with a black powder compatible lube, but not enough for use in a 24" barrel unless you also use a lube cookie or lubed wad. I've run them sized to ....

I loaded up 100 .44 Henry Flat-equivalent cartridges today. In Starline brass, I loaded 28 grains of 3Fg Goex, 0.5cc of cornmeal filler, and an Accurate 43-215C bullet, 219 grains as it drops from my mold when cast of 20:1 lead:tin alloy. Primers are CCI No.300 LPPs. Some of them are in this picture...

If you use a bullet that carries enough lube you don't need to mess around with lube cookies. An excellent choice is the Accurate Molds 43-215C, which was designed by the late John Kort. I saw a couple references online that original 1860 Henrys lacked a half-cock notch.

Anyway, since I originally posted, I got a private message on another forum from an Uberti Henry owner. It does have a half-cock notch on the hammer.

Uberti 1860 Henry Question

I am considering buying either an Uberti 1860 Henry or 1866 Winchester. Does the Uberti Henry have a half-cock notch on the hammer? Apparently the originals did not. Even if it's not authentic, I'd prefer the rifle to have a half-cock for potential hunting use. Can anyone on here who owns one answer...

Re: Silicone pot holders for metal bullet mold handles?

I cast about a hundred bullets and just wore a leather work glove on my left hand. It was good enough. The mold blocks don't fully meet so many of the bullets have some flashing on them that will be cleaned up when being sized, or if necessary with a fine cut file. They are dropping from the mold at...
