There are two different tip sizes of firing-pins for original M1892 rifles. The earlier style has a fairly large diameter tip that protrudes from the bolt-face...the newer type is small. Maybe you are replacing the firing-pin with the wrong one?
I know too that dry-firing is tough on firing pin tips.

Make sure the screws holding the left and right cartridge guides are tight....it really does sound like the lifter detent has an issue though if the lifter is dropping down trying to chamber.

there are detent notches in the receiver and a detent plunger and spring in the lifter/carrier itself. I don't think the one I looked at had any missing pieces...it had all the forearm screws and more or less intact...even the barrel/receiver take-down joint was snug.

I do think nitrated paper causes more bore fouling than non-nitrated paper. Using super-glue as cartridge glue as some advise...sometimes left tough to remove 'streaks' in the bore...for some reason Elmer's stick glue and nail polish don't. My biggest beef with the non-nitrated paper is grass fires!...

Hubert's Shoe Oil brought a 1888 vintage 'Wilkenson Sword Co' sword-bayonet scabbard that came from the Nepal cache back to life.
