Winchester 94, can peep and rear sight go together

My Winchester 94 was built in 1962. The gunsmith installed a Lymann 66 peep sight plus a Marble green fiber sight. Unfortunately it‘s too low I hardly find it when looking through the peep. I contacted Lyman an Marble both were very helpful and told me what hight the front sight must have. At presen...

Re: Do I need a special front sight?

With an aperture I won't see the front sight at all, so I removed it. Now it's fine. BTW, with a Winchester 94, when looking through a Lyman 66 peep sight, do you have to cock the hammer in order to see the front sight clearly? A person at a German hunting forum stated that. In my opinion that's non...

Are pre-64 Winchester 94 fromt sight ramps made from steel or aluminium? My rifle was built in 1962.
Find out with a magnet. :?
LOL You are right of course, my home is South Africa, there I have a magnet - but now I'm visiting Germany, with no magnet in my pocket :)

Do I need a special front sight?

I obtained a Winchester 94 built in 1962, the gun is with a gunsmith right now. He is putting on a Lyman 66 peep sight and it was my idea to have a fiber optical sight (green) installed. But now I wonder, do I need a fiber sight at all, can't I be happy with the original front sight? I don't want to...

Re: Winchester 94, peep sight, left-handed shooter

I visited Texas a couple of months ago. It was great. Stayed at Fredericksburg for a week and drove up to Loyal Valley and Mason. Later stayed at Waco (wasn't impressed) from there I went to Fort Parker. Wonderful experience. I liked Fredericksburg a lot, could easily stay there for an extended peri...

Re: Winchester 94, peep sight, left-handed shooter

Vance, that's very kind of you, thanks. What are your plans for South Africa, where will you be? Of course, in Germany guns have to be locked up when not in use. Guess it won't be different in your country. Where do you live? So far I have been to Montana, South Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska and Texas.

Re: Winchester 94, peep sight, left-handed shooter

My gunsmith has an excellent reputation but of course one never knows. I'm living in South Africa but the Win 94 is in Germany (where I was born). When on holiday there I neither have time nor facilities to fiddle around with gunsmith work. I rather go straight away to the forest and look for a roe ...

Re: Winchester 94, peep sight, left-handed shooter

You people have a fantastic knowledge, great. I gonna hand over the rifle to a very good gunsmith, let him do the job. Better to be on a safe side

Re: Winchester 94, peep sight, left-handed shooter

What's a nice fiber optical sight (green) for a Winchester 94? I think I gonna get a Lyman peep sight. Thanks for your assistance!

Winchester 94, peep sight, left-handed shooter

I have a pre-64 Winchester 94 and it was my plan to have a Marble Tang Peep Sight installed. But what about the Lyman Aperture Sight, the one which goes to the left side of the receiver? Aren't Lyman Peep Sights the best sights available? However there might be a problem: I'm left-handed. If the pee...
