Re: What are my 45-70 lever options?

If you can find one, the japanese built Winchester 1886 EL are real nice. Accurate, light and good looking.

Re: 45-70 questions - trying to decide what to get...

I picked up an 1886 EL, It's a miroku, but I love it. It's accurate, It's super strong, it's good looking and feels like it was made for me. they are a bit more spendy than a Marlin but I would still recommend it over most any other.

Re: OT Military history of Alaska

My family lived on Ft. Wainwright from 1961-1966 during the Viet Nam buildup. There wasn't much going on there at that time which made it an absolutely wonderful place for boys to grow up. After all these years I still have not experienced the hunting and fishing paradise that that place was. If I c...

Re: Unique, Unique

I've been using Unique for all my 45 Colt, 45 ACP and 38 Special for more years than I care to talk about and I am completely happy with it. In the beginning I did try some others but the Unique always gives me the best loads. I will keep on using it until they don't make it any more, or I croak, wh...

Re: *OT* Living Near Military Bases

One of my biggest pet peeves are these pantywaist idiots around my part of the world. Fort Lewis, in western Washington, has been where it is for a hundred years or more. Thousands of people in this area get their income, in one way or another from this post and McChord AFB next door. The "Soun...

Re: WHAT !!!!!! No primers................

I saw exactly the same thing at a western Washington gun show this weekend. Plenty of primers at $30.00 a box of 1K. The crowds were large and they were buying ammo as fast as they could haul it away. I could smell it too.

Re: PRICE CHECK - Rossi clone 92 in 454

I have never seen a Rossi 454 with a 24 in. barrel, In fact I don't believe Rossi made a 454 in anything but a 20 in. especially with the 22 style mag tube. With that in mind it would be tough to ascertain value. I have one of them and have some interest in them. I can say, if you could find one, in...

Slinging an 1886

I have this 1886 EL that I plan to use elk hunting this year. I want to put a sling on it but I don't want to damage the rifle if I can avoid it. Any one know of a way to put a good sling on one of these without drilling any holes in the wood or messing up the blueing?

Re: win 1886 recoil pad

I too have a new 1886 EL that I have now taken to the range three times. I have fired both factory ammo and my own reloads with bullits ranging from 300 gr to 405 gr. I too would be very interested in the answers to this question. I plan to use this rifle primarily for hunting but I have found that ...

Re: Whats the best lever gun & calibre for comp & wild pigs?

I'm not quite sure I completely understand your requirements as related to competition shooting. I have been known to shoot in some CASS gatherings, I will on occasion do some silhouette shooting and I will go for hogs when ever I get the chance. I have a Rossi 92 in 45LC/454 and have never found it...

Re: POLITICS - Malfeasance of Government on Display - again

Snotwad and TCB, I wish it were as simple as you make it sound, but it's just not. Those people who use the drugs may not be the victims, they are making the decisions to use the drugs, right? The problem is this type of person, after starting drugs generally can not hold on to or get a decent job. ...

What I did on the first day of my vacation.

On the first day of my summer vacation I went to one fo my favorite gun shops, just sort of killing time with my kid. He was looking for a set of grips for his kimber TLE. While that was going on one of the fellas working there asked if there was anything he could show me. I'm just foolin around so ...

Re: Rossi/Puma

I guess I just lucked out. I bought a Rossi 92 in 45LC/454. I have taken it to the range I think three times. It never was real bad, a little stiff at first but the trigger was good. After the third trip the action has smoothed out nicely, it's very slick. The only complaint I have, is shooting 454 ...

I have a 454 and the bulk of my shooting is 45LC, matter of fact the last several hundred rounds have been 45LC. I just now fed a half a dozen rounds of 454 through it and they went through flawlessly. The 45 loads I am using are 250 gr lead cast bullets over 12 gr of unique. This is a rifle only lo...
