Re: Leverevolution and the 30-30

I learned a long time ago that some guns just don't like some bullets.... I'd have changed to a different bullet and done a ladder test... that way you're only out 10rds and you know if it's going to be worth following up on. I never test just one bullet unless it's the only bullet that fits a parti...

Re: What about the 'Ruger' & 'Savage' forum(s)...?

I did not care for the Savage forum before it became a two tier board. I'm sure my opinion of it now would not be any different. As the other guy said, lots of sniper wannabes and the like and in my opinion a lot of bad information to boot. I like both the Ruger forums but mostly lurk Another good o...

Re: OT: Marlin Owners Forum

As I'm a gun "ho", I'm a member of at least a dozen boards. Most are great some not so much but I avoid the "know it alls" and "arrogant types" like the plague. One brand specific board went from pretty good to lame soon as the owner decided he'd have two "levels&q...

Re: pure accuracy

Yeah I know no one wants to hear it but I've got a old, well used 472 Mossberg that puts three 170gr Federal factory (the cheap red box stuff they used to make and I stocked up on it big time long ago) into under .75" consistently. I bought it new over 30yrs ago and it will leave my possession ...

Re: 22 RIMFIRE FAVORITES

My favorite is a 37A Mountie (1964) It likes the mini mags and velocitors quite a bit, but shoots Wolf Match Target really well too. Shoots anything I put in it but really doesn't care much for the bulk ammo accuracy wise, but I'm picky about accuracy. Could also be because it's the only 22 I own! I...

Re: .30-30 Powerpoint vs. Nosler Partition

A partition at 30-30 velocities doesn't always expand properly. I've used them and even at "short" range they just don't mushroom very well. The Corelokt, and Hornady interbonds mushroom quickly at 30-30 velocities and give plenty of penetration. I've killed several 250-300lbs boars with t...

Re: How dependable were bolt mounted Winchester peep sights?

There is so little movement in the bolt it's negligible and being an iron sight it will be more accurate than the gun (Bullet BC) or shooter is capable of with barrel mounted sights anyway (what slack might be present is more than made up with the addition sight radius). To gain any more accuracy y...

Re: Article at Brownells: Sights for the Marlin 1894 Lever Gun

There are alot of very experienced shooters here on this forum - how many get cloverleaf groups from their stock 1894's...? yeah that's one I'd have to have seen happen and then see it repeated... I could post all manner of 5 shot one hole groups shot at 100yds.. but they happened with various rifl...

Re: Marlin 336 SC in 32 Special

If you're looking to buy it as a "shooter" then go for it but don't overpay for it. They're nothing "special". IF it was a 90% or better gun then it'd be worth a bit more collectible wise. As is, no collector value. 32's aren't rare and 50s 336s in excellent condition are plentif...

Re: OT-Is this burl??

Burl is usually only found in hardwoods at the crotch and larger limb junctions.

I have several very large slabs that I cut out of a Black walnut tree that's been air drying for about 8yrs. Should be ready in another year or two.

Re: OT: Browning Xbolt Micro Hunter

most of my "pretty guns" are range guns or safe queens. I've pretty much gone down the dark path with hunting rifles. I like plastic because it doesn't show scratches or dings near so much as metal does, nor does it corrode.... It's lighter so it's easier to carry. Even though I'm a old fa...

Re: How dependable were bolt mounted Winchester peep sights?

I've looked at these bolt mounted aperture sights and always wondered if they were dependable and held thier POA or does the bolt tolerances introduce some error? There has to be "some" but I doubt you'd be able to actually tell it on the target.... peep sights are for sure more accurate ...

Here's what someone is asking , for a NIB one. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=207045449 I never look at "asking" prices only closed auctions.... 90% of the guns on Gun Broker are guys "fishing" for the next sucker. Same often goes for Guns America. I've seen...

Re: Good news from Mossberg

I have one of the new straight stock models. It's not as pretty as my Winchesters or Marlins but honestly it will out shoot the other 7 lever guns I own. I get consistent 100yd .75" groups with Fed. 170s out of it. Not one group here and there but repeatedly. I have a couple hundred rounds thro...
