Hypothetical question: Marlin vs Winchester
Question: If a person were to use a Winchester 94 and a Marlin 336 in a head to head torture test using quality ammunition, which would fire the most number of rounds before breaking in a way that rendered it unable to operate as it was designed to? Why? Although I am more of a Marlin man I must adm...

My suggestion is to handle each one, buy the one that feels best for you. I have a 44 spl flat top 4 5/8 blue and a 44 spl New Vaquero polished stainless 3 3/4" barrel. Love them both but the New Vaquero is the one that goes with me in a Lee Liles belt rig that has a crossdraw holster. My favor...

Many of the more valuable firearms at the museum were actually sold off many years ago, too bad. It is still a fantastic place about 15 minutes away from where I live. Will full size buttstock fit Ranch Hand?
I tried a search but did not come up with an answer to my question.
Will a fullsize buttstock for a Rossi 92 fit a RanchHand? Is it a simple bolt on?
Sure would like to have a SBR 92 in 45 Colt.

Re: New Winchester 94 44 mag SRC
Buttplate is checkered steel, has even "bled" into the wood a little. The wood seems to fit the metal very well. What vintage is this Winchester? If I look up the serial number using only the numbers (no M suffix) it comes back 1970. Not sure if the suffix would change that dating or not.

New Winchester 94 44 mag SRC
I just picked up a Winchester 94 saddel ring carbine in 44 mag, serial number 3290***M. It has a 20" round barrel and is blue.
My question is what kind of wood should the stock be made of? I don't believe it is walnut because it has been stripped and is light in color.
Thanks!

I'll bet it is 1 in 24 or 26"...unless it is a Trapper, then it could be 1-20, 1-24, or 1-38, depend'n. The standard length barrels on the Win 94 chambered for the .44 Mag were different than the Trapper, except for the later model Black Shadow 44 mag, it came with the 1-20 twist. Hope you're ...

Place the rifle in a drill press vise in the drill press.
Using a screwdriver bit of the correct size mounted in the chuck, use the drill press to hold down on the bit in the screw while turning the drill chuck by hand.

Yesterday, I aquired a Stevens 235 12 gauge double. It appears to be made in 1921 and, although the bluing is a little thin, is in great shape. If the Marlin pictured is the one you have been trying to sell, I would say your area is economically depressed. I know more than one dealer here in NE Oklahoma that would give you

Thanks for the many helpfull answers, guys. I actually prefer longer barrels in a 30-30 from 20" to 24".
But this year I have cut 18 30-30 leverguns down for customers and have three more waiting. Not sure why this sudden interest in "trapperizing" a 30-30.
