Re: '73 '76 action strength

The 76 receiver is not long enough for the 45/70, so they simply shortened it to a bottle neck round. Bullets much heavier than 375 grains don't stabilize well and will keyhole. A 45/75 with a full case of FF Black Powder is nothing to sneeze at to be sure. It will kill anything on this continent ju...

Veeman, I have one of those Chief Crazy Horse Rifles, that I purchased back a 2003 and have never worked up a cast load for it. I tried the Cast Performance.378 with fair accuracy using Blue Dot back then and it had been in the safe ever since. Would you mind sharing what you use? Thanks, JBowen Wh...

I shoot 350 grain bullets in both my 50/95 and 45/75, Barnes in the .50 and Berry's in the .45. If it could take a griz in the 1800's, it can do it now. Bears aren't any tougher. I cast bullets for both and are the main bullets for both. Even the 45/60 like the 350 grainers.

Not to nit-pick, but feel I should clear it up, there were no 76's made by Chiappa, I'm sure your thinking of Chaparral. I believe that Hornady brass is a bit beefier that Starline, Winchester or Remington.
