Welcome Normac. I was in Oslo in 1953. Not far from the palace was a park, and in the park was a beer garden. A 0.5 liter glass of delicious dark beer was 1 kroner. At that time the US cost of that beer was 14 cents. Times have changed, and not necessarily for the better.
Enjoy the rifles.

Re: Minimum battery?
Why in the world would anyone want a "minimum battery?" This whole forum is a celebration of excess, no apologies necessary. Nearly 70 years ago my dad called me a gun nut. Guilty as charged!

Re: adjusting sights?
The only solution is a range box to carry along a small assortment of tools, cleaning gear, target pasters, etc. Hint: Harbor Freight tool store is your friend.

Grizz, I have a little different take on the speculators. Let's say that you own a refinery with 1 million barrels of crude in your tanks that you bought at today's price, or you own a gas station with 10,000 gallons of gas that you bought at today's price. When the futures price jumps 2% tomorrow, ...

Stuff a wad of fine steel wool in the gap and soft solder over it to fill the void. File all flat, and you are done. There is no need to test to see that the fix is watertight as there will be a vent hole in the lower rib under the forend. On the Savage doubles made in the last 50 years or so, silve...

Old Savage, Nothing you have read or heard about the housing situation applies to Gillette, WY. They are building housing as fast as they can, and there is no lack of customers. It is hard to bring in more construction workers as there is little in the way of housing for them. There are several town...

Joe, I take it that you are in or near Springfield. Call Bill Oglesby and see if he can recommend a competent gunsmith in your area. He probably won't take the job as he concentrates on pistolsmithing, but should know somebody who will. Have iron sights soldered on over the holes, and everything wil...

Joe, I would be very reluctant to return to the same butcher who has already demonstrated his lack of ability. You don't need to drill more holes to correct this problem as there are a number of solder-on iron sights that will go over the holes. Soldering on sights will require a blue job, but at le...

As J Miller unfortunately found, a brass drift will dent a sight when you attempt to use it as a means of adjusting the sight. You can buy nylon drift punches, but I have never found them to be easy to use. The best solution I have found is a copper punch. That gets the job done and leaves no dents....
