Download helper is an extention for Firefox for saving imbedded video. As a note, regardless of how you get the file, most youtube is saved as a .flv extention. You'll need a something other than windows media player for playback. VLC is a good option for that and is, of course, free.

Always found gimp rough around the edges and counter intuitive in many areas compared to PS, but that's one of those in my opinion areas that can go round and round all day long. And just to be clear, you're not downloading anything with Pixlr. It's entirely web based.

USSG has some decent coach style SxS shotties. by all accounts they seem reasonbaly good for the price, though I'm not sure how you're looking to use these things or if you need something pricier. Found one on Bud's for under $300.

Fun fact.. You can induce an artificial patina on most metals by use of mustard and ketchup... Similar process to bluing; creating a controlled rust.
