9422 Stock refinished

I just picked up a 9422 built in 1972 that has been well used. The metal is marred, but not too bad. The wood was dented, scuffed and gouged and needed some attention. I used Zip Strip to clean off the finish, a wet wash cloth and an iron to steam out the dents in the wood, 0000 steel wool to take o...

Re: Help from our wood working experts

I had some kitchen cabinets that were really dulled out and dry. I put on Watco Danish oil stain and it livened that wood up immediately. You will know in about 30 seconds if it is going to work. I haven't seen it fail myself. I wouldn't use any of the poly finishes on a gun because it is hard to re...

Small point of fact. The British navy didn't beat the Spanish armada. Weather did the job nicely. I imagine had the entire armada faced the British, both at full strength, the story would have been much different. British navy folks always seem to forget this little point. Well, yeah, they're Briti...

Can't say for sure if you made the right decision or not, but your comment about the magazine has me wondering. I bought an extra magazine for my 88 that came from a Model 100. I bought it from a friend with the stipulation that if it didn't work in my 88, I would return it. Loaded it worked fine, b...

BL22 Disassembly and firing pin replacement

I took my daughter out shooting last weekend and were having a great time until the BL22 stopped firing. I checked the ammo and found no strike on the brass, so I figured the firing pin was broken. [quote="southfork"]It seems that there aren't too many firing Model 1886 Winchesters out there these days in 40-82. I guess maybe that's because reloading components haven't exactly been plentiful for that caliber. I had a thought about using .405 jacketed bullets made by Hornady in reload...

I was watching a show that was set in the 1800's in the southern US. As the kid walked along, I saw a house through the trees that was a modern ranch style home. The longer wood ahead of the band is an older style, and came back in the 90's I think. The shorter fore ends came about in the late 30's or 40's. The longer wood looks much nicer to me. IIRC, they went from the longer to the shorter wood in 1950-51. The 1950 rifles had longer wood and the 51's hav...

My first rifle was a 721 in 06. They are fine guns and are surprisingly accurate. I always thought mine wasa 2" gun at 100 yards until I shot it from a lead sled and had a 3/4 inch group at 100 yards!
