Re: Marlin Cowboy 336 and 1895 Questions
My 336 CB and 1895 CB have the same dimensions across the flats within a few thousandths. The breech on the 336 is .830 and the 1895 breech is .835 across the flats. The 336 is .700 across the flats at the muzzle and the 1895 is .694 across the flats at the muzzle on my pair. The 336 CB is a 38-55 a...

Re: OT: CH4 Tool & Die Co.
I have ordered special order dies from them a few times and got good turn-around on all but the last set. The last set was a wildcat ordered in Jan.On follow up I got the story that they had been heat treated in May but not assembled yet. They finally got sent in Aug. After I got steamed with the per...

Re: Perplexing problem with .30-30
You did'nt say that you have a scope so I am guessing that you do. It sounds like a scope related problem. First thing to check is the mounting-rings and bases for tightness. If that does not take care of it try a different scope.

Re: Favorite cast HUNTING bullet for 38/55?
I have a Marlin 336 Cowboy that mic's a very smooth and uniform .381. The bullet is from a lapped out Lyman Mold that was a 264 grain GC FP and sized to .382 . The charge is 33 grains of AA-2200 and chronographs at 1811 give or take a bit. The alloy is Taracorp with a little extra Tin added-it comes...

Re: Alaskan Bear oriented Levergun/'smiths and features?
I spent three years in alaska back in the 60's-back then the model 71 was the preferred levergun and accordingly quite hard to find for sale. From what I gather they are even more so with the 375 , 45 &50 alaskan today. As far as handy to carry the Guide Gun is about as compact as it gets in a l...

Re: Off Topic-Ithaca Classic Doubles kit
I have one more question about these receivers-are they already heat treated and if not what alloy is the steel?
The pictures were enough to get me going-forearm is not finished yet but heading that way.

Re: Off Topic-Ithaca Classic Doubles kit
OK this is from the coil spring type- From front to back: The latch pawl is pinned to the fore-end iron frame. In the front of that slot goes the retainer spring in between the two holes of the tensioner and a pin runs through it into the frame. Then there's a spring stop on each side. The double r...

My parts set is somewhat like the picture but has coil springs for the most part.Otherwise it is close enough to figure out
which is which in comparison.

Re: Off Topic-Ithaca Classic Doubles kit
My problem is that I don't know how the selective ejectors go together in the forearm. As far as knowledge, tools, equipment and experience goes I have plenty to go around-I have been building rifles and restoring rifles and shotguns for many years, just no experience with selective ejectors.

Off Topic-Ithaca Classic Doubles kit
Off Topic: Does anyone out there have a parts layout diagram for a Ithaca NID double? I have a Ithaca Classic Doubles kit that has parts that I don't know how they fit in the receiver and forearm. It came to me as a 28 Ga. set but the barrels are quite heavy so I decided to make it a 24 Ga.-too smal...

Re: Need help with 1895 scope mount screws- finding them
A good gun shop will likely have the screws or a gunsmith if you have one in the area. If it comes down to ordering them from midway or brownell's you will find it more cost effective to just buy another base at wally world or some such, a new base will have the screws included.Shipping costs from s...

Re: Marlin 1895 Cowboy KABOOM!
I just measured the cylinder on my super blackhawk 44mag. and came up with .100 inch at the thinnest spot in it -the same dimension as the marlin.the super black hawk can handle quite a bit of pressure within common sense limits. It would appear that the Marlin would be capable of the same expectati...

Re: Marlin 1895 Cowboy KABOOM!
I have a Marlin 45-70 factory barrel in hand that is identical to the one in this discussion. The thinnest portion is under the threads as was already pointed out, the chamber thickness at that point is only .100 inch thick-yes 1/10 of an inch and at the extractor slot it tapers to 0 at the rear of t...
