I have both a japanese 30-40 and 30-06. Mine take 4 in the mag. But you can put anothervround invthe chamber for a total of 5. Ought ti be enough for mostvwork.

In my case, I sent my rebounders to Turnbull and had the rebounder removed, the tang safety deleted and got a nice case color finish done. Not inexpensive, but you only live 1 time.

I didn't choose the 500 when I went the custom route. I went with the 510 diameter and 50 alaskan in the marlin and 50-110 in an 1886 winchester. I guess I am a tradionalist and old school. I can tell you that the 50 caliber works well on game. I can tell an advantage over the 45/70.

It would be pretty hard to argue against the 30-30 if legal. The morons running the lawoffice in Ohio allow me to use my 50 alaskan and 50-110 winchester deer hunting but the 30-30 and 35 remington are illegal.

As far as performance, my bet is you could exceed or equal it with the Barnes 150 grain x flat nose or for fun a 200 grain round nose for the 308 or 3006. Probably no expansion, but beaucoup penetration.

I have used 10 grains of unique and a 200 grain xtp to take deer in 44-40. I would not shoot this load in my uberti 1866 but it works great in my japchester 92 Winchester.

With weaver rings, a quarter fits the screw slot. If you used the complete weaver set up and had a damaged scope, you can remove it it about a minute. then you could use the irons. If your using a 2x8x33 or 1.5 x5 like me, low power is about the same as irons so no need to remove a scope without dam...

Rocky mountain cartridge makes new brass 10 ga. Shotshells. Cost varies by length. New ones go between 8 and 10 dollars last tine I looked. You can easily sell them to a cowboy action shooter on the wire. I have 3 10 ga. Shotguns and use brass cases for black powder loads for cowboy.

Lets look at the other side of the coin. If I wanted to shoot a SASS class with smokless and did not allow a marlin. The 73 in 44 mag would make sense if I was using 44 mag vaqueros. I shoot 6 grains of unique and a 200 grain lead at 1120fps in the marlin and an average of 820 fps in a set of 4 5/8 ...

Brass cases can easily be reloaded. I use them for cowboy action shooting. Rocky Mountain Cartridge makes an inexpensive loading set for this. I would really like to see a modern Slug available for the 3.5 inch 10 gauge.

Bass Pro is at least 20% higher cost on everything around here. I like Cabela's and bought items like pants, shorts and tennis shoes there. Bass Pro has expensive lower quality items and much less selection. Needless to say, Fin, fur and feather will get all my money now.

What I do is start with highly reduced loads. Then shoot them for practice often. Somewhere along the line sight in with the 'heavy' ammo, then revert to the light load. Shoot a 220 grain 300wm, then a 300 grain .338wm. You will quickly understand there is no comparison. The 300 will kick and the .338 will kick a lot! Works the same way on whatever poor creature you shoot with these things.
