Re: leaking scope?

Unlikely any liquid is leaking out of the scope - all that's inside should be nitrogen. Is the scope still clear? My only guess might be that somebody ran a very oily rag over the scope and the objective/tube joint caught some of it. Again, that seems unlikely. I doubt anybody would have an oily rag...

I would think 200 brass would be a reasonable minimum to pass on with the rifle, 400 or 500 would be very comfortable.

Re: .348 Winchester Ammo

I expected this back in the mid-80s, before Browning did their 71 copy. Oh well, hope everybody with a 71 has put back all the factory ammo they'll need. The real worry is cases, you'd suspect if they're not going to make ammo, they won't run cases either. That's a real problem.

Re: help a Win 71 nut out

Don, You're right - my drawings don't show how broad the head of that pin is. On my 71s, even-the most-used of them, the closing feel is of tight metal-to-metal fit of the locking bolts. There's definitely enough friction there to hold the lever fully closed, even without the little pin contributing...

The Pope went on vacation for a few days to visit the rugged mountains of Alaska . Take a look at this, absolute marketing genius. Let's see - one for the car, one for the reloading area in the basement, etc., etc., etc.

The .348 evolved from the old .50-110 Winchester, a case with a larger base than most any other common cartridge. The basic RCBS Hand Priming Tool (90200) works just fine with RCBS shellholder #5. The RCBS Universal Hand Priming Tool (90201) is, or used to be, advertised as suitable for all calibers...

I read somewhere that Winchester had planned to introduce the Model 70 first (hence the earlier model number) and then the 71. Some production problem supposedly held up the Model 70 a bit, and the 71 came to market first.

You do, VERY infrequently, run into a piece of new brass with a case flaw. I may have seen only 2 or 3 in straight-sided pistol cases in 40+ years of reloading. Most I have seen have been on bottleneck rifle cases, usually in the neck/shoulder area.

Ambrosia, a perfect description.
