Re: OT-New truck
I have a dear friend that is retired from the GM Moraine plant near Dayton, Ohio, which is closed down now BTW, who told me about a female employee that worked near him. This gal worked in a tool crib. The only thing she did was hand out air tools to the workers. She actually worked about 1-3 hours ...

Re: OT-New truck
Wow guys, I am staring to see where "used " might be something to look at. But, I drove a used F 150 the other day, an '06 model. It had an unusual odor inside and the GF found that the owners manual was moldy and wrinkled like it had been soaking wet at one time. I found some mud inside t...

Re: OT-New truck
Thunder 50, it is very hard to compare diesel trucks with gas trucks, sorta different animals. The Cummins diesel in the Dodge seems great, but the rest of the truck falls apart around it. I do not know why you had to replace the tires so early. My Tacoma got 65k on the original Firestones and I now...

Re: OT-New truck
Wow, what a variety of answers! Seems like Ford is getting more pluses than the others. The main drawback on the Ford is the gas mileage. The 5.4 is only rated 14/19, but I am hearing from local owners that they get 9-12 mpg around town. Ouch! My son bought a new Dodge "Hemi" in '04. Nice ...

OT-New truck
Anyone here besides me thinking of buying a new pick-em-up? I have been driving a '99 Tacoma for nearly 10 years and want to get a new truck, something that at least sounds more American. The Tacoma has been nearly trouble free in 137k miles but I am wanting a full size with more comfort and more to...

Re: Taurus Gaucho .45 ?? anybody have experience ?
Streetstar, The only experience I have had with the Gaucho was not good. I bought a stainless one, used, from a friend of a friend. I could not pass up the great look and feel of the gun and it's slick action. Soon after buying it I was noticing that something was wrong when I loaded rounds into it....

I bought it for the good review in Guns Of The Old West magazine. Now I remember why I quit buying magazines! Griff, not to worry, the sleeping part had to be better than the watching part! I blew 20 bucks on this one. Ed Harris and Renee Zellwigger, sooooooo bad! OOPs, can't find the little "u...

Re: OT-How did you get started
Cool stuff seeing how others got started! I admit that very limited hunting was done in my family. Grandpa would shoot a rabbit once in a while to eat. Several times he would have me hold a burlap sack over the end of a pipe that he put in a ditch so he could drive over it behind the barn. He would ...

OT-How did you get started
I remember well my Grandpa showing me an old Winchester M1890 that he had used for years and years. He was born in 1896 so it was a pretty new piece when he bought it used. It was chambered for .22Shorts only if I recall. What a sweet old rifle to handle! It was a takedown and i remember the bullets...

Bear 45/70, I hear what you are saying about the cost, they are pricey. My Colt SAA 3rd gen is the only gun I have that I gave more than this for, but I just had to have it, and have no regrets. What is the H&R 649? I don't think I ever saw one. I love cheap .22s that work also. I have a Remingt...

I have found that most Winchester ammo works pretty well in my guns, the Remingtons are kinda iffy. I recently bought a brick of Peter's 40gr solids. They were about $9.00 for the brick. I had not seen any Peter's ammo in many years. Now I know why, they are just flat lousy! There are many rounds th...

Re: What IS up with Winchester and rimfire ammo?
I was in the local Wal-Mart about an hour ago in Hamilton, Ohio. They bad plenty of Fed and Rem bulk packs, and a good supply of CCI .22s. I did not see any Winchester on the shelf. They are very thin on 9mm and .45ACP, and .30-30 is gone. This is not a hot bed for hunting but I have not seen any .3...

Re: OT - what milsurp rifle under $200 makes the best hunter?
I have a M-N 44 and am wondering how you get the safety off for a quick shot, when needed. I am not a small or weak fella, but jeez, that safety must be the worst on just about any rifle. Could carry with an empty chamber, I guess, and just crank in a round when needed. That would seem faster to me ...

Years ago my Sis lived on a farm. There was a creek bed that ran thru the back field. The creek must have been close to one hundred feet below the top of the hill above it.
