Bob I agree with you- most flies- like most rifle calibers are designed to catch customers. There are usually only a handful of patterns you really 'need' on a given set of water- but what the hell, throwing everything in your fly box at a fickle trout is half the fun.

Does anyone have any favourite tricks and tactics when fishing for trout.

I make artificial trout eggs out of a synthetic kitchen cleaner or piece of foam-melt some glycerine and add anniseed oil (sometimes sold as anise oil) available from chemists.

It looks like a Red. You would however be hard pushed to tell the difference between a Red, an Elk or a Red/Elk 'super red' hybrid from a photograph.

Interesting to note if it can interbreed with whitetail deer and if the off spring are fertile.

Is it socialising with whitetail or is it a loner?

L find Leupold M8's an excellent choice and have a number of them. Nothing ever goes wrong with them.

I recently was given a Bushnell 3200 10x and have to say it looks to be an excellent scope.

My preference is for fixed power scopes. Keeps things simple.

Apropos of Nicknack's comment about concrete reinforcing. I know of a factory in Western Sydney, and the owner got hold of a large number of SMLE barreled actions in the 1960's that he used to reinforce the concrete. The concrete is as good as new

Yes, I agree 30-30 is excellent for pig. Even the German's adopted the calibre, giving it a ref 7.62x51R.

Pigs love close cover and also have poor eye sight so range is hardly an issue- unless you want to ambush them from the other side of corn fields etc
