Re: Bolt action caliber for North American hunting

I would pick the Savage 308, synthetic stock, blind magazine with a good 3-9-40 scope for a good all around hunting rifle. This rifle is light, has a great trigger, plenty of factory cartridges to choose from and will kill 95℅ of the game animals from small to large in North America. As a matter of ...

Re: Does Anyone Hunt With Lever Guns Anymore?

I killed a nice 7 Pt and a 9 Pt this season with my Winchester 30-30, 2 shots and 2 Bucks. I also shot a doe with my 6.5 Creedmoor.

Re: Bolt action caliber for North American hunting

My first, as opposed to a family gun, rifle is (still have it) a 700 lefty in 06. Blued, there was no other choice. Fairly decent wood stock, which compared to what comes on today's rifle looks real purty. Pretty much did everything I ever needed or would need. But, variety is the spice of life. :m...

Re: I remember when (keep this going)

I remember when I could start for the Jiffy Store on my bike and pick up enough Soda bottles on the side of the road that I could buy all the Candy (junk food) I wanted and leave with money in my pocket.

Re: 2nd Lever gun kill

I usually hunt with an AR 6.5 Grendel or AR .308 but I ran up on a good deal for this Winchester (same as yours) and I must say topped with a Leupold 1-4-20 pig plex it is a fantastic swamp carbine. It shoulders so easy and is very quick & nimble to use, I'm a believer now. Now its time for a fe...

2nd Lever gun kill

Here's a Monster 7 point I shot yesterday afternoon, the Winchester Ranger 30-30 put the whammy on him at about 120 yards. He ran about 30 yards and piled up. 2nd hunt with this rifle, 2nd Deer. I love this little rifle.

Re: Howa Mini 6.5 Grendel

The Howa 6.5 Grendel has rave reviews, I have 2 6.5 Grendel AR15 rifles. One 16" carbine and a 20" Bull barrel, both with Geiselle triggers . They are fine deer killing machines, I've taken two bucks at 400 yards + with the 20" Bull barreled Grendel. You're going to be very happy and ...

Re: First Lever gun Deer kill

I have to admit that I wasn't sure just how well the old 30-30 would do, but at 80 yards the 150 gr Corlokt put him on the ground DRT. Im definately a believer now. Those who nay-say the ol' 30WCF just haven't used it, or lack the skill to properly do the job. I must admit that I was one of the one...

Re: First Lever gun Deer kill

I've been on hunts for deer and moose with friends, helped skin and gut, but never got one myself yet. My freezer and rifle are envious  Congrats! It'll happen, you just need patience, luck and time in the woods. You're in one of the best places in the world for Monster Whitetails, I envy ...

Re: First Lever gun Deer kill

I'm a gun guy, ive owned single shot, bolt action and semi auto rifles since I was 18. The truth is my favorite rifle like my moniker says is the AR 15 platform 6.5 Grendel. But I love all Gun's and I'm real glad I recently got the Lever gun fever and I really took pride in harvesting a nice deer wi...

First Lever gun Deer kill

At age 52 I've killed many, many Deer, however unlike most hunters I started hunting with a 308 and never owned a lever gun until I bought this Winchester Ranger 30-30 last year, which also led me to add a Marlin 336 30-30 & a Marlin 1894 .357 magnum. Anyway I had a little luck a couple days ago...

I'll check it out, the only draw back is Danny Glover. Good actor, bad politics. I've got a lot of his movies but that stopped once I saw his true colors.

Re: New guy from Georgia

I'm afraid if I'm going to use iron sights I'm gonna have to go with a Skinner system, my old eyes just aint what they use to be. I'm running a Leupold 1-4-20 Hog on my 30-30 and a red dot on my 357 Magnum, trust when I say I wish my eyes were good enough for the stock irons. Glad that you've signe...

Re: New guy from Georgia

Do any of y'all keep the Hornady Levervolution loaded in your rifles? I've been reading that the plastic nose of the bullets begins to deform, I like Hornady ammo and would like to use it but not at the expense of performance.

Re: New guy from Georgia

Today I got a chance to shoot my 1894 Marlin 357 mag and it shot great at 50 yards using a Bushnell TRS 25 red dot & 158 gr JHP Starfire PMC. I know some of the purists won't like that but my eyes just can't use the iron sights, but with the red dot on it I can make it sing and hit very accurate...

Re: New guy from Georgia

I've shot Deer out to 425 with my 6.5 Grendel but that's about as far as I feel comfortable shooting Deer, I've punched paper out to 600 yards with it as well. However the 6.5 Creedmoor and the .260 are real life long distance calibers that can reach out and take game much further. Im going to build...

Welcome to the fire :D your two lever action rifles should make fine huntin' companions. But like I said I hunt with ARs, AKs, SKS, bolt actio...

New guy from Georgia

I didn't see a place for introductions so I thought I'd just post here about my two newly acquired lever action rifles. The first was a Winchester Ranger 30-30 and the second was a Marlin 1894 .357 Magnum, both are in good shape. I'm not a newby to the Gun scene, I've owned many since I was 10, some...
