Re: O/T: Cool 460 Fireball Pics

Tutt, In the day-time photo, and I think the 1st night-time photo you can see the smaller fireball from the barrel-cylinder gap. With all that escaping gas, makes me wonder how our 'old-timey' revolvers can still be still so effecient!

Re: 375 Winchester and 38:55

In my experience, it is safe. If the 38/55 round chambers with ease, there should be no problem.

Re: O.T. T/C ?

I found that my T/C carbine in .375 Win. was a good deer killer.

Plus, the chamber was long enough to accept 38/55 rounds for black powder plinking!

Saw a Russian levergun

on TV last night. TCM showed a Russian movie made years ago; it was about an army surveying party out in the boondocks of Siberia around 1907. The captain carried a '95 Winchester. Interesting that they are/were still floating around in the U.S.S.R. when the movie was made. Were they issued to Russi...

Re: 1889 32-20

If you are interested in black powder, I get good results with a 115 lead bullet
(Lyman 311008) over 18 grains of Swiss fffg in my 1894 Marlin. That gave me 1250 fps.
Or, 11 grains of Triple 7 ffg at 1150 fps.

Re: OT Thank you Short Magnums!

In Penna. we can use any centerfire cartridge regardless of caliber as long as it shoots a lead or jacketed bullet designed to expand. For ML, the caliber must be .44 or greater. Hey brno602, I've always read that soft lead must be used for a patched round ball so that's what I do. How's the accurac...

I have the American Rifleman issues of April '91 and June '96 that have articles on the BLR.
I may also have the July '82 on the BLR. Let me know if you want the pages copied.

Re: Thoughts on lever as bad times rifle?????????

Hey kid - I think the 336 in 30/30 would do ya fine. It works OK in a defensive situation too. As a small-town LEO I bought a used one and had my 'smith shorten the barrel to 16" for a patrol rifle. Qaulifying with it next to the younger guys with thier AR's was a blast; it kept up with them pr...

Re: Blackpowder cartridges in a Rossi 92 / .44 Mag?

Hi guys, after lurking in the shadows I finally signed up. I shoot BP in a Uberti Henry (.44/40) for competition, and in a Marlin .45/70 & .32/20 for hunting. In my experience, only the bore needs cleaning. No BP fouling gets in the 'works'.
