Thanks everyone, I appreciate everyone not bashing one brand or the other. That's what I was after with learning about the Henry. Seems the big differences are weight & loading through the tubular magazine. Personal preference it seems, with maybe an advantage for defense with the loading gate. ...

Rugers are special. The New Vaquero gives almost Colt like feeling & has all the safety features.

Henry makes a very good lever action. Their .45-70 is heavier than the Marlin 95, but a nice rifle anyway. Extra weight tames recoil but makes packing all day in the woods more tiresome.
The .22s I've seen & shot all shot exceptionaly well. I'd like the chance to shoot their .45-70.

Coming back to look again. There's no turn line on the cylinder great. Never lower the hammer on a Colt or replica from half cock. That's what puts the turn line on the cylinder. It causes the locking bolt to drop between the locking notches & when the cylinder is turned to lock it it'll scratch...

Rube, good for you. Once you start reloading for the .44 Mag you will see what a great cartridge it is. It is as versatile as most any cartridge & can be loaded from light loads almost in the .38 Special range to full house magnums. 8) You will like it, then if you get into casting your own bull...

You are going to enjoy those Rem. .458 405gr JSP bullets. I've used them for a long time in the .45-70 & even in a .458 before it's recoil got to me. They are accurate in my rifle & one day I hope to get an Elk with them.

My Wife bought me a Lee 500gr FP GC mold for Christmas I hope to cast some bullets of my own this spring when the weather warms up.
