Re: What I learned after enlistment
One of the things I learned was the meaning of "The Needs of the Service." It didn't matter what they promised, either verbally or in writing, the needs of the service ALWAYS comes first. If you were an air conditioning/refrigeration tech and they needed a truck driver, you were shifting g...

Re: Dis Da BOMB !
With how little they knew about what they were doing, the relatively crude equipment and the level of technology back then, I'm a little surprised they didn't blow us up way before they got it to the Pacific theater. They sure had vision and the will to carry it out, though. God Bless them for what ...

You know there are hundreds of living former SEALs and snipers out there still, that have earned their chops. All we need to do is find them and get them to open up a little. Many of them won't.

i CAN'T RESIST! 1. "These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country." - The Crisis by Thomas Paine December 23, 1776 2. "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little...

I'm good for a few. 1. "LIFE'S JOURNEY is not to arrive at the grave safely, in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "Holy pelosi, what a ride!" Mavis Leyrer age 83 2. "God gave us children to test us and grandchildren to get even.&quo...

Re: Realistic number of cartridge cases w/bullets and or loa
MERRY CHRISTMAS! I would think that a reasonable number of cases depends on the caliber. Almost any common handgun caliber would require a few thousand cases minimum. Rarer ones require as many as you can get. Rifle cases? .223/5.56 several thousand. Other standards maybe not so many. .308 and .30-...

It was very nice of you that you saved the snake, but once they taste human blood....and you could change into a zombie now! About ten years ago my wife, Ayesha, backed into our garage with her window open and a Red Tailed Hawk flew into her Ford van. Between her swatting and the hawk clawin...

Rio Bravo, that's the one I couldn't remember. It had Dean Martin, Angie Dickinson, and Ricky Nelson as Duke's main co-stars. Walter Brennan was the jailer with the shotgun and the bad eyes.
I've seen these movies so many times that I don't even watch them anymore, well, maybe sometimes.

Bruce Cabot as "Sam Sharpnose" was John Wayne's partner in Big Jake. But he used one of Duke's Greeners. James Caan as "Mississippi" was The Duke's partner in El Dorado. Duke took him to a gunsmith he knew that had the sawed off. But I'll bet the one your thinking of is the one t...

I like the src .45-70. But the .45-90 is also talking to me.
I reconsidered, keep them all and shoot them.

Re: OT: S&W 586 Question.
Shooting off the cuff... It looks to me like someone may have drilled and tapped the barrel under lug to add weights or a light or other device. They may have added weights for PPC shooting. They could have left the screws in to protect the threads from damage and dirt. Speaking of which there seems...

Re: Just a neat "old man's" gun
I have one of those holsters for my S&W M-640. I picked it out of a box of used leather and paid $5 for it. It's pretty handy when you know you will need to remove your pistol during the day when visiting the doctor, schools, etc. I love the movie The Thirteenth Warrior , based on Michael Cricht...

Of the two models you mention I would pick the 590 with the extended mag tube. A virtually indestructable shot gun.
I have two Remington 1100s set up for shot gun games, but an 18.5" Remington 870 HD in the bedroom (You can count on a pump every time).

I have bought a lot of tickets in my time but there have been a few succesful drawings. Here are the ones that come to mind.
Browning BPS 12 gauge
Taurus 2 1/2" 'Judge'
Ruger 96-22 (My wife's ticket.)
A few beautiful paintings (NRA banquet.)

I have never needed a very powerful rifle for varmints and rabbits, but I do have an '03-A3 in .30-06 for fun shooting and a Marlin 1895 in .45-70 for more fun shooting.

Re: OT: .45 Autos
For a box-stock factory production gun I go with Kimbers. Second choice was Springfield but If I were to buy a new 1911 I think I would try a S&W. I've owned 5-6 Colt 1911s, two of them were Gold Cups. All gone now. My wife has taken control of my Kimber stainless Classic and I shoot/carry an Ul...
