Re: 375 Win question
I've been loading 'upper-end' 38-55 loads for my 94BB .375 using the longer (2.120") brass for some time and they work fine. I lightly crimp in the upper groove of the Lyman 375449 and have never had any problems with cycling, and the accuracy of my loads are pretty good. I'm also certain that ...

Re: Advice on replacing front sight on M94
You're in good company Griff. Once on this forum I said that a friends .308 Win. M99 Savage was "pre-WWII" until another member tactfully mentioned the fact that the .308 Win. didn't exist before WWII.Griff wrote:I can only claim fatigued memory

Re: Advice on replacing front sight on M94
I'm grateful to all of you for your input. I decided to get a Williams sight pusher. It seems the best way to go, and me or friends can probably get more use from the tool. I just lost an eBay auction to get one (strangely the winning bidder paid the price one pays for a new one in the Brownells cat...

Re: Advice on replacing front sight on M94
The hood will just press off with finger pressure. Ok, a LOT of finger pressure, but it should slide off, I generally push from the rear. I appreciate your measuring technique, and roger the starboard to port. Your mention of the hood reminds me of a time long ago when I tried to push one off towar...

Re: Advice on replacing front sight on M94
Using the proper tool for the job sounds right to me. I'll check the Brownells catalog and see what they've got. Thanks guy.CEMENTHEAD wrote:Get or borrow a front sight pusher. You'll never have to worry about dinging it up. Hope this helps, Tom

Advice on replacing front sight on M94
I acquired a 94 Big Bore (.375 Win.) recently, and I find the front sight much too tall. I see no evidence of it not being factory installed, but it's so tall it almost touches the sight hood. I have to use the highest elevator notch and move the leaf-insert as high as possible to get it to hit a bu...

I'll walk over there this evening and look at it Bear. My friend will take great delight in my making a fool of myself on a forum.Bear 45/70 wrote:ozymandias, the serial number will tell when that 99 was born. See if you can get it.

Re: Handloading for Savage 99 (.308 Win.) question
These 99s are either rechambered or are not pre-WWII. The 308 came into being in 1958, at least that's what both my Cartridges of the World says. Good catch Bear & Buffboy, you're correct about the .308 not being a WWII catridge, and I didn't have the presence of mind to question my friend abou...

Handloading for Savage 99 (.308 Win.) question
Greetings, I'm about to commence a hanloading project for a friends Model 99 Savage. It's a pre-WWII vintage .308 Win. in ostensibly good condition. The owner is a good friend and neighbor, and I want to provide him with some quality ammo that will not be detrimental to that wonderful old rifle, so ...

Yes I have two suggestions; Since you did not specify the caliber but mentioned 150gr loads I'm going to guess that it's a 30-30. I've had a bunch of Winchester 94s and not one shot that far off with standard ammo. Joe Thanks for the reply Joe. Sorry I neglected to tell you what cartridge but your ...

New 94 AE hits extremely high.
Greetings, I've got a friend in another state with a relatively new 94AE that shoots extremely high. His POI is about 12 inches high and 6 inches left at 50 yds. He tells me that he actually removed the adjustable rear sght blade and still the problem persists. He says that the front sight looks &qu...

Thanks all of you for your words of welcome. Joe, you've done good! I just downloaded the 2008 Winchester parts catalog and they appear to have the Finger Lever Link Washer in stock (Brownells didn't have it). I'm going to figure out what other parts (firing pin, extractor etc.) I want to justify th...

Lever "wobble" problem.
Greetings, This is my first post on this forum. I've lurked for a while and I'm happy now to be with all of you. I've got a Winchester 94 AE (.357) with a considerable amount of "wobble" in the cocking lever. It's bad enough to allow me to push it to the side of the trigger stop. It's an a...
