Colleagues: thanks for the responses. My big drawback to "scratching that itch" is the pistol sights and my eyes. At age 78, my eyesight even with glasses is not as sharp as it once was.

A few years, ago I purchased a 99-H Savage in .303 Savage. Made in 1936, 20” barrel, all OEM parts, and correct Redfield receiver sight. Very pleasant to shoot and an unusual calibre to boot!

MarlinMan: thanks for the information on the two rounds. If do decide to shoot it, it will be at low pressure/low level velocity. Age and medical maladies now restrict my shooting to only from the each and I do not care for heavy recoil. Thanks again.

Happened to me when I was in Infantry Training Reg't, Camp Lejeune, 1964. First 1-2 rounds fired normally, the remaining wen full auto! Quite a surprise and it was not uncommon. Like HorseSoldier03 posted, due to a worn sear and those old M1's had seen a great deal of use and abuse.
